VVSD Program to be Featured at Statewide Conference

Two Valley View School District 365U members will present at the Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education conference.

Two members of the Student Services Department have been selected as presenters at September’s Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education conference.

Executive Director of Student Services Erica Ekstrom and Student Services Administrator Shannon Cribaro will team up to detail a VVSD pilot project that enables educators to monitor life and vocational skill progress in students with moderate to severe disabilities.

The project, authored by Ekstrom, Cribaro and four STEP and Bolingbrook High School teachers, was implemented in VVSD’s 18 to 21-year-old Secondary Transition Experience Program (STEP) last year. Plans call for expansion into both high schools in the coming school year.

The IAASE presentation will focus on the process used to implement the plan and how the assessments helped provide the best services to students.
