VVSD Superintendent to Interact with Parents, Community in New Online Feature

School district website's 'Ask the Superintendent' is designed to answer questions about the upcoming school year and more.

You've got questions. He's got answers.

has been on the job for just more than two weeks and he's already implementing new and unusual ways to interact with students, parents and the public at large. 

Take a peak at the district's website and you'll notice a new feature called "Ask the Superintendent."

According to the website, Mitchem, the former principal of , will hold a series of community forums to discuss the upcoming school year and the changes that have taken place in the district.

Mitchem said the idea actually was hatched by the district Director of Community Relations Larry Randa.

"It was Larry Randa's idea, and a good one if I might add," Mitchem said. "I have had several inquiries, of which I try to answer the same day.

"So far people have used it for seeking a job and getting playground equipment for Tibbott as well as questions surrounding 90/10 and the grading scale," he said.

Mitchem said he will make answering questions a priority and because people cannot remain anonymous, it should help keep the number of questions down and ensure that they are appropriate.

"I think it is an excellent idea and will help to keep things as transparent as possible," Mitchem said.

Answers to questions may be discussed at the forums and also will appear on the VVSD website in August and September, the website said.
