Athlete of the Week: Bolingbrook Middle Blocker Ciara Hill

The latest Athlete of the Week focuses on Bolingbrook's middle blocker.

may have found themselves on the losing end in their match against Lincoln-Way West, falling 30-28, 16-25, 18-25, but they made it difficult for the visiting Warriors.

Junior middle blocker Ciara Hill, from Bolingbrook, was a major reason for their troubles. She was a constant presence in front of the net offensively and defensively. She kept her team with the Warriors long enough for them to pull out a game one win. Hill had four kills and key defensive blocks in the clutch moments.

The Warriors found their footing in games two and three, but so did Hill. She added 10 more kills in the matches and remained a tenacious presence on the court, frustrating potential Warrior rallies and keeping her team in contention.

How long have you been playing? I started in sixth grade, but I didn’t play any club or anything like that until high school.

Were you parents or siblings an influence? No, they don’t really play, but my brother is a wrestler.

Are there other sports you enjoy playing? I used to play basketball and softball, but I dropped them in middle school, so it’s just recreational now.

Even though you’re only a junior, have you given any thought to college? Yeah, I have. I’m already emailing coaches. I’ve been in contact with UNC (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill). That’s my top school. They’ve got a really good program out there.

You have any idea what’d you like to major in? I want to be a physical therapist.

Last question … the team went through some growing pains last year and some this year. It’s a young team. What are your expectations going forward? This game was a huge step stepping stone for us. We really came out with intensity and fire and it is a big step forward for us because we have a tournament over the weekend (they went 1-2 in the silver bracket, defeating Rockford Guilford and losing to Plainfield Central and Oswego). We can go as far as we want to go.
