Bailey a Finalist for Gatorade Player of the Year Award

The Gatorade Player of the Year award is given out annually and recognized athletic and academic excellence along with character on and off the field.

Aaron Bailey, the star junior quarterback for the state champion Bolingbrook Raider football team, has been named a finalist for the state's Gatorade Player of the Year award, school officials confirmed Wednesday.

The award, given out annually, recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.

Bailey scored the go-ahead touchdown in the . Bailey finished that game with 149 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns while passing for 140 yards.

Gatorade is expected to make an announcement about the state player of the year sometime today, according to its website.

Bailey, also a standout baseball player, threw for 807 passing yards and nine touchdowns this season. He also led the team in rushing with 989 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.
