Brooks Middle School Softball Team Wins Regional Title

The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the first inning and moved one step closer toward gaining a berth in the IESA state softball quarterfinals.

One down, one to go.

Bolingbrook Brooks Middle School powered one step closer toward reaching the IESA state softball quarterfinals with a 19-7 victory over Antioch in Monday's Glendale Heights Regional finale.

The Bulldogs (11-10) scored seven runs in the first inning and coasted behind the hitting of Kayla King (2-for-3, 3 RBIs), Claire Jaskowiak (3-for-5, 2 doubles) and Tamira Hughes (5-for-5, 4 runs scored). Hallie Hall and Gabby Gallucci were credited with leading a strong defensive effort.

And Allie Hays entered the pitching circle in the third inning. She struck out four and limited Antioch to five hits.

"This was really a team effort, and I have never been a part of a team with so much chemistry," Brooks coach Amy Ligmanowski said in an an email.

Brooks next will face Homer Junior High at 1 p.m. Saturday in the sectionals. The winners advances to the IESA state quarterfinals at 10 a.m. on Sept. 27.
