Lady Raiders Move Up in National Poll, Set to Square Off Against Lockport Tonight

It would be easy for the Bolingbrook High School girls basketball team to become complacent.

The Lady Raiders are 10-2 this season, and sit atop the Southwest Suburan Conference standings with a 4-0 conference record. They've reeled off three-straight wins after suffering two tough losses against two of the best teams in the country. And they just moved into the No. 5 slot in a new national poll

But Bolingbrook Head Coach Tony Smith is making sure complacency is not the case.

But the game, despite the good outcome, left a sour taste in the mouth of Smith, who was not pleased with his team's performance.

"This group is probably my most talented group," said Smith, who has coached back-to-back state champions. "But it's also been my most difficult group because as a team we just don't come out and do the things that we try to work on and stress.

"The effort is the same way—it's just bad," he said. "All across the board, everything's bad. The coach is bad. We're just bad."

Smith will attempt to get his Lady Raiders back on track tonight in the team's first home game since Dec. 14—a dominating 97-25 win against Lincoln-Way Central.

Then, the team was preparing to travel to Phoenix for the Nike Tournament of Champions and still had its eyes on being the No. 1-ranked team in the country.

But two losses to perhaps two of the best teams in the country dropped Bolingbrook in a few national polls. A strong showing in a Cincinnati tournament—Bolingbrook defeated nationally-ranked Nazareth (N.Y.) and a solid team in Largo (Md.)—however, has put the Lady Raiders back in the mix.

But it all starts with the game at hand.

Lockport (7-5) enters the game on a three-game winning streak. The Porters are averaging 47 points per game this season—56.4 points per game in wins and 33.8 points per game in losses.
