Former BHS Athletic Director Alec Anderson Dies Suddenly

During his time at Bolingbrook High School the school won five state championships.

Former Bolingbrook High School Assistant Principal of Athletics & Activities Alec Anderson died Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency while using a treadmill at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, the district announced.

Anderson, 54, was set to begin his second year as athletic and activities director for the district.

During his time at Bolingbrook High School the school won five state championships. It wasn't those championships, though, that Anderson took away from his time at BHS.

“Yes, the state championships have been a lot of fun,” he just a few months before leaving his job in Bolingbrook. “But it’s been great to see the growth in the programs that don’t get the notoriety that basketball or football does.”

During his career, Anderson served as a high school teacher, head football coach and assistant coach for wrestling, baseball and track. Anderson held a B.S. in History and Physical Education from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and a M.A. in Education, Administration and Supervision from Governors State University. A certified athletic administrator, he was a member of the National Interscholastic Association of Athletic Administrators and served the Illinois Athletic Directors' Association as the State Awards Chair. He also served on committees for the Illinois High School Association.
