Girls Basketball: Brooks 8th-Graders Fall in State Quarterfinals

The Bulldogs are unable to sustain the momentum of three-point shooting supplied by Tsimba Malonga and Francesca Aniceto in the early going of a loss to Summit Hill Junior High.

Brooks Middle School's run to the girls 8th grade Class 4A state basketball championship came to an end Saturday with a 40-30 quarterfinal loss to Summit Hill Junior High of Frankfort.

The Bulldogs (20-3) put up a valiant effort taking an 11-8 lead after a quarter thanks primarily to a pair of 3-point baskets by Tsimba Malonga (13 points) and Francesca Aniceto (5 points). But Summit Hill (24-1) center Lauren Hunter scored eight of her game high 18 points in the second quarter to put the Spartans up 21-15 at halftime. Summitt Hill expanded its lead to 30-23 after three periods.

The winners hit 8 of their 12 free throws in the contest to hold offBrooks. The Bulldogs were just 1 for 7 from the free throw line.

Other scorers in the contest for Brooks included Jayden Marable who hit a 3-pointer, Taylor Robinson with 3 points and Auriel Sanders and Hannah Smith with two points each.
