Jane Addams to Play in Boys State Basketball Quarterfinal

Janes Addams Middle School won its sectional game Wednesday and will play in the state quarterfinal on Saturday.

Firing on all cylinders Wednesday night, Jane Addams Middle School advanced to the IESA 8th grade boys basketball Class 4A state quarterfinals thanks to a 64-34 shellacking of Rockford West Middle School in the Jefferson Sectional championship game.

The Mustangs (23-2) will meet unbeaten Parker Junior High School of Flossmoor (21-0) in a 1 p.m. Saturday contest at Bartonville-Limestone High School. The winner moves on to the state semifinals at 5 p.m. that same day. The state finals and third place game are Feb. 14.

Four Mustangs hit double figures in the victory over Rockford West with Trey Mack leading the way with 22 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals. Joseph Yesufu (5 steals) added 12 points, while Calvell Randall (2 blocks, 3 steals and 3 assists) and Cameron Harris (9 rebounds) each scored 10.

Jane Addams never trailed in the contest building a 10-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game on some powerful rebounding and a tenacious zone trap that forced 5 Warriors turnovers in the early going. It was 14-8 after a quarter, 38-25 and halftime and 52-32 after three quarters.

Other Mustangs scorers included Domenic Klauk (4 rebounds) with 4 points, Mark Bennett (4 rebounds) with a basket and a free throw, and Jack Eken with a 3-pointer.

Josh Gage coaches the squad with assistance from Jared Ploger. Other team members include Capri Stewart, Matt Bielawski, Cameron Faulk, Elijah Porter, Jonathan Banks, Antwon  Allen, Cameron Harrell and Nana Akenten.
