and Cicero-North Syracuse's (NY) Breanna Stewart will be teammates next season at the University of Connecticut.
On Monday, Tuck, the girls basketball team's stud forward, and Stewart battled it out in Phoenix for bragging rights come fall 2012.
Tuck and Stewart each led their respective teams, but Stewart and the Northstars ultimately proved to be too much as Cicero claimed a 43-40 victory over the Lady Raiders in the first round of the .
The loss was Bolingbrook's first of the season. The Lady Raiers are now 6-1 on the season.
The game was one of the must-see matchups in the first round of the Joe Smith Division, which features 11 of the nation's top 25 teams, according to USA Today.
Bolingbrook came into the bout ; Cicero was ranked No. 14.
The Lady Raiders, who made a national championship a priority, got off to a solid start, limiting Stewart, one of the nation's top high school players to zero points in the first frame. Bolingbrook took a 10-7 lead into the second quarter. By the time the first half was over, the Lady Raiders were leading 23-15.
Bolingbrook would hold the lead until a three-point play by Stewart with 3 minutes, 20 seconds left in the third quarter gave the Northstars a 25-24 lead. Bolingbrook would trail Cicero 28-27 heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Trailing by three points and with their national championship hopes perhaps hanging in the balance, Tuck drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game.
Unfortunately for the Lady Raiders, the Northstars' Brittany Paul responded with a 3-pointer of her own and and Cicero wound up winning the game.
Cicero advances to play Dr. Phillips, which defeated Stockton-St. Mary's 73-55, on Tuesday. Bolingbrook, meanwhile, heads to the loser's brakcet, where it will take on St. Mary's. That game is slated for 10:30 a.m. Phoenix-time.
