Nneka Onyejiaka Goes 4-2 at State Singles Tennis Tourney

The Bolingbrook High School senior won the Downers Grove South tennis sectional to advance her to last weekend's state final.

After suffering an upset in the second round of the Illinois High School Association’s Singles state championship, Bolingbrook High School’s Nneka Onyejiaka battled back to win three straight matches in the consolation rounds to finish among the top two dozen players in the state.

The BHS senior opened with a 6-3 and 6-1 victory over Hannah Nichols of Loyola Academy before falling to Homewood-Flossmoor’s Faith Huckabee 1-6 and 1-6.

She then proceeded to beat Annie Rivera of York 6-2 and 6-2, romp over Shannon Wuller of Belleville Althoff 6-0 and 6-0, and slipped past Samantha Schafer of Oak Park-River Forest 6-7, 6-1, and 6-4, before finally bowing out 8-3 at the hands of Geneva sophomore Kimberly Einck.
