Local UFC Fighter to Battle for Title

Ricardo Lamas will fight featherweight champ Jose Aldo on Saturday.

A new Plainfield resident could become the featherweight world champion this Saturday.

Ricardo Lamas, 31, will fight Jose Aldo at UFC 169, looking to take down the five-time champ.

Lamas recently bought a home in north Plainfield, according to sister-in-law Jennifer Lamas.

UFC camera crews were recently at Lamas' home, filming a special in preparation of the title bout, Jennifer Lamas said.

"This is a big deal because it's a title spot," she said, "And Aldo is no joke. It's definitely going to be a tough fight."

Lamas got his start as an amateur fighting in Chicagoland, making his UFC debut in 2011.

"We are so proud of him and how far he has come," Jennifer Lamas said of the 145-pound fighter.

Plainfield-area viewers can get a preview on the Lamas vs. Aldo fight on UFC Ultimate Insider, airing at 5 p.m. Friday on Fox Sports 2.

Jennifer Lamas said her brother-in-law has spent the last few months in Miami training for the bout. He's headed to Newark, New Jersey, where the fight is slated for Saturday at the Prudential Center.

The bout will air on PayPerView at 9 p.m. Central on Feb. 1.
