Raiders Eye Vikings in Gridiron Grudgematch

Bolingbrook looks to avenge last year's loss to Homewood-Flossmoor, while handing the Vikings a second straight defeat.

Whether the scoreboard indicates it or not, each week provides an unique challenge to the football team.

After back-to-back blowouts of and on their home turf, the Raiders take to the road for their biggest challenge yet — a grudge match against Homewood-Flossmoor.

Quarterback Aaron Bailey said he and his teammates began looking forward to the game as soon as they clinched their .

“Once we hit the locker room, we were saying we have a big one next week. We're going to H-F and we know they're not going to lay down,” Bailey said. “They're a very tough team. They're going to be hungry and they'll probably try to take it out on us. But we'll be doing what we've been doing since day one.”

The sky is the limit if Bolingbrook can continue the pace it has built for itself since its season opener.

The Raiders have scored at least 39 points in each of their four games, averaging 47 points per game. Defensively, Bolingbrook is getting the job done with a swarming unit that has allowed a total of 47 points in four contests.

Both of those figures are tops in the Southwest Suburban Blue Conference.

And while its last two opponents are a combined 0-8, the Raiders' first two opponents — Plainfield South and Belleville East — are each 3-1.

Homewood-Flossmoor presents its own set of challenges, having averaged 46.5 points per game, including a whopping 76 in its season opener against Chicago (Senn). But the Vikings suffered their first defeat of the season in a 38-21 loss to Lincoln-Way East on Sept. 16, snapping its three-game winning streak.

Bolingbrook will look to hang a second straight loss on H-F, which .

The win would mean a lot to senior D.J. Pruitt, who said he is enjoying the ride as the season goes along.

“You can't help but enjoy it. Right now, we're one of the teams to beat. Regardless of where we are right now, we're enjoying the ride,” he said. “This is my last year playing on this field and it's heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. It's a bittersweet situation, but all we can do is play.”
