Sophomore Ben Moore Stars In Varsity Debut For Raiders

The Bolingbrook Raiders added depth to the roster with the addition of Ben Moore, who scored a game-high 15 points in a win against Joliet Central.

Getting the call to join the big club is one thing, but answering it with authority is another.

Bolingbrook sophomore Ben Moore made his varsity debut Friday against Joliet Central and immediately put the Steelmen on notice with his play in the paint. Moore led the Raiders with 15 points in the team's 69-59 regular season-ending road win.

"Any time you can bring a sophomore up for his first game and he's your leading scorer, it's a pretty nice luxury to have. For his first varsity game, he did a really nice job," head coach Rob Brost said.

Moore came off the bench after senior LaTree Russell found himself in foul trouble during the first half. Russell's replacement responded by scoring 14 points in the first half.

Though he struggled in the second half (one free throw, no field goals, one blocked shot attempt), Brost said he was happy with the youngster's ability to play within himself and provide a positive contribution to a win.

Bolingbrook's head coach credited his assistants and sophmore coaches for getting Moore up to speed.

Moore's energy off the bench, not to mention his execution within the team's structured offensive and defensive sets did not go ignored by Bolingbrook's staff.

"He did a really, really good job in the first half finishing around the basket, running our sets and doing what we do," Brost said. "He stepped up and played very, very well."

Moore will find out if he can build on his solid debut Monday when the IHSA playoffs tip-off at 8 p.m. in Bolingbrook.
