DGS' boys basketball team. Just 24 hours after seeing their eight-game winning streak snapped, the Mustangs bounced back with a gritty 53-46 victory over Naperville North Friday night in the third-place game of the Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament.

: , senior forward on the boys basketball team. Benson was Hinsdale South's Athlete of the Week nominee last week but his performance in the Hinsdale South Holiday Tournament warranted another nod. Benson averaged 20.5 points and 11.8 rebounds in the tournament and scored 26 points in the Hornets' 54-51 win over Lake Forest in the tournament's consolation championship.

: Lemont boys basketball team. The Indians finished runners-up in the Romeoville Christmas Classic last week after a close game against Crane (they lost 58-54). The team is now 11-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Sean Lehane, swimmer. Lehane broke a meet record in the backstroke on Dec. 17 at the Neuqua Valley Invite. He has qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200-meter backstroke. Not only is he a great swimmer, but he also is competitive academically. Lehane has a 3.8 GPA and scored 28 on the ACT. He will swim at the University of Tennessee next year.

Nate Washington, boys basketball team. Washington set the tone for the Spartans in the inaugural Romeoville Christmas Classic. Washington scored 12 points in Romeoville's 67-41 win over Urban Prep West on Dec. 26 and followed it up with a 15-point performance a few nights later.
