Five Things to Know This Weekend: June 22-24

1. Campout at Hidden Oaks Nature Center

Celebrate the "Great American Backyard Campout" with the Saturday through Sunday at . Bring the family, camping gear and food to cook over a campfire. Washroom facilities will be available. Participants will be contacted with specifics upon registration. The fee is $22.50 per family and $15 with a resident ID card. 2. Village Picnic

All residents are invited to the 28th annual Village Picnic which will be held from noon to 5:30 p.m. Sunday behind . Festivities will include a petting zoo, free hot dogs, bingo, kids games, hot dog eating contest, amateur art and photography show, pony rides, and more. For more information, click here.

3. Pet Adoption Event

The Romeoville Humane Society is holding its monthly adoption event at from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Stop by and meet some of the animals looking for new homes. Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be  up for adoption. Pet Supplies Plus is located at 270 N. Bolingbrook Drive, in Bolingbrook.

4. Lake Renwick Bird Viewing

Join the Forest Preserve District of Will County from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday for the Lake Renwick Bird Viewing event. Telescopes and binoculars are available for use. Those ages 7 and up can discover how the birds build their nests, see the young as they grow, and learn how Lake Renwick came to be a rookery and a Nature Preserve. Lake Renwick is located on Renwick Road, one mile east of Route 30, in Plainfield. For more information, click here.

5. Free Community Cookout

will host a community cookout with free food and drinks and fun for the kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot in front of the church. The event will be held rain or shine. The church is located at 314 E. Briarcliff Road, Bolingbrook.
