Friends of Library Stage "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake"

The free performance will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center, 375 W. Briarcliff Road.

So what exactly happens if you give a cat a cupcake?

Inquiring minds can find out during the "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" performance sponsored by Friends at 7 p.m. tonight at the , 375 W. Briarcliff Road. Admission is free and no registration is required.

The event, put on by the  Emerald City Theatre Company, is a kick-off to the library’s annual summer reading program. The Friends of the Library sponsor a play each year in support of library programming to the public.

“Most years, the plays have actually closely matched the summer reading theme,” said Chrissy Little, communications manager at Fountaindale.

She said the theatre troupe offers a choice of two plays.

“This year it was not difficult to select ‘If You Give a Cat a Cupcake’ since the summer reading theme is ‘Reading is SO Delicious,'" Little said.

The reading themes are established annually by the Illinois Library Association each year.

The kick-off program for summer reading is also the kick-off to the summer concert series. The concerts will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning June 13. All concerts take place at the Performing Arts Center. A schedule can be found here.

"This is a wonderful event to start our ‘Reading is SO Delicious’ summer reading program,” said Fountaindale Outreach Manager Marianne Thompson. “It's fun for the whole family and is a great partnership with the village and the Park District."
