Illinois State Police Issue Winter Travel Advisory for Will County

Treacherous conditions expected to pose significant threat to area motorists this weekend.

Illinois State Trooper DeAnn Falat released the following advisory:

Treacherous weather conditions are expected to pose a significant threat to motorists this weekend and into early next week. Due to the severe winter weather we have already experienced in the past few weeks, including record low temperatures, heavy snow accumulation and severe cross winds, we are asking motorists to take extra caution while on the roadways.

Our Troopers will be working around the clock to divert tragedies and keep our motorists safe, however we are asking that you do your part and pay attention to road conditions before venturing out in this treacherous weather we are expecting.

Illinois State Police District 05 would like to remind motorists that when warnings are given to stay home and limit their travels, because roadways are hazardous, please take it very seriously. For the rest of the winter months, we are urging motorists to plan ahead and take necessary safety precautions while traveling on the interstates, and all state routes.

Wet, icy roadways and drifting snow conditions may disrupt travel and motorist should allow extra time when making travel plans. Drivers are encouraged to keep food, water, warm clothing and blanket in their vehicle should they become stranded for a long period of time.

We are also reminding motorists to remember to obey the ‘MOVE-OVER LAW’. When you see an emergency vehicle conducting duties with their emergency lights activated, please remember to slow down, change lanes away from all emergency vehicles and proceed with caution. Failure to do so may result in significant fines, suspension of your driver’s license and
possibly time in jail.

ISP District 5 Commander, Captain Bridget Bertrand would like to remind motorists to buckle up and drive safely.
