Robert Deel was the Illinois State Police crime scene investigator on Kathleen Savio's case in 2004. Deel was—and still is—certain that Savio died in a freak bathtub accident. He managed to convince the relatively inexperienced lead investigator assigned by the state police to the case that he was right in this assessment. As a result, virtually no physical evidence was collected from the scene. Deel also happened to be a crime scene investigator on the Christopher Vaughn murder case. He is one of the few investigators on the case to subscribe to Vaughn's explanation that his wife, Kimberly Vaughn, gunned down the couple's three young children, shot Christopher Vaughn in the leg, and then turned the gun on herself, taking her own life.
