Valley View Teachers' Contract Expired Six Months Ago -- Still No New Contract

Valley View School District and Valley View Council Local 604 of the American Federation of Teachers have yet to announce an agreement for a new contract.

Valley View School District 365U teachers are still working off of an expired teachers' contract, one employee told Patch.  The contract for Valley View School District 365U teachers expired in August.  A proposed contract was voted down overwhelmingly in September based on salary, higher insurance premiums and changes to the daily schedule, according to the Bugle. Of the 1,800 certified and classified members, 92 percent rejected the contract.  One teacher aide from Valley View said that as of Feb. 20, she had not received another contract to vote on.  The union received a counter proposal and the union and the district are continuing negotiations, the Bugle reported in November.  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  There are plenty of ways to…

Really? You have no clue. Go spend a week in your local school and see what teachers put up with. And now they want to cut pay and increase insurance premiums. Yet Mitchem and the rest of the administrators get a raise and get free insurance that will be paid for by the teachers. Mitchem just received over $60,000 for an online "degree" but teachers, who actually work with your children get next …   more ›

The contract for Valley View School District 365U teachers expired in August, and as of Nov. 21, according to the Bolingbrook Bugle, there still has been no agreement for a new one.  A proposed contract was voted down overwhelmingly in September based on salary, higher insurance premiums and changes to the daily schedule, according to the Bugle. Of the 1,800 certified and classified members, 92 percent rejected the contract.  The union received a counter proposal and the union and the district are continuing negotiations, according to the Bugle, but an agreement is not likely before the end of the year.  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  There are plenty of ways to keep up on Bolingbrook news:

Village Board Decreases Annual Pay Raises

Bolingbrook trustees voted to knock their annual pay raises down from 3 percent to 2 percent to better reflect what other village employees get.

Village officials have voted to decrease their annual pay raises, saying their raises should be in line with what other village employees get. Bolingbrook trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to knock down their annual raises from 3 percent to 2 percent. The measure could save the village more than $25,000. Prior to the board's vote on the matter, the board approved a new labor contract between the village and the Bolingbrook Fire Fighters Association Local 3005 of the International Association of Fire Fighters AFL-CIO. In that contract, Bolingbrook firefighters will receive 2 percent wage increases beginning this year. Mayor Roger Claar said the decrease in executive raises was made to better reflect that of what other village employees are…

Will County passed a budget without union raises. Bolingbrook negotiates a 2% increase. Let's see ..in the private sector (where most of the taxpayers are) we are getting pay freezes, layoffs, cutbacks, benefit reductions, foreclosures and no cost of living for social security and military pensions. Village officials should have bargained for no increase and accepted no increase in their own pay…   more ›
