Basketball: Bolingbrook Lady Raiders Fall to Marian Catholic

A fourth foul on Bolingbrook top-scorer Amarah Coleman turned the tide to Marian Catholic's favor.

After crushing several conference opponents, the Bolingbrook High School Lady Raiders basketball team fell to Marian Catholic Monday in the McDonald's Shootout in Willowbrook, according to the Southtown Star.  It was the first time Marian Catholic (20-1) has defeated Bolingbrook.  Marian Catholic and Bolingbrook were tied in the second half when Bolingbrook's Amarah Coleman received her fourth foul and took the bench. That's when Marian went on an 8-1 lead to take the lead.  The Lady Raiders rallied to pull within 48-47 but were never able to get the lead. Boys Basketball: Bolingbrook Tops Homewood-Flossmoor in a Thriller

The Bolingbrook High School boys basketball team led Homewood-Flossmoor through much of Friday night's game.  But a 15-3 run by Homewood-Flossmoor in the fourth quarter brought the two teams to 48-48 with 5:10 left in the game, according to the Bolingbrook Reporter.  A dunk by Bolingbrook's Kendall Guyton with four seconds left pulled out a 50-48 win.  Bolingbrook and H-F have a history of close games, with Bolingbrook losing to H-F in overtime multiple times in the past.  "If you had told me at the beginning of the night we were going to win by two, I would have taken it," said Bolingbrook Head Coach Rob Brost.  Bolingbrook is now 11-3 overall and 3-1 SouthWest Suburban Blue.  Top scorers: Prentiss Nixon (20 points), Kenny Williams (16 …

Brooks Basketball Team Just Misses State Finals

The Brooks Middle School girls basketball team's season ended just one game short of the state quarterfinals.

An unrelenting defense wasn't enough to carry Brooks Middle School to the 8th grade girls basketball state quarterfinals as a taller and stronger Mokena Junior High squad held off the Bulldogs 34-30 in a sectional final contest Wednesday evening in Frankfort.  Brooks (18-3) forced 26 turnovers in the contest including back-to-back steals by MacKenzie Williams and Tsimba Malonga with three minutes left in the game to give the Bulldogs a 28-26 lead. But the Meteors (17-7) utilized their powerful inside game to tally on a put back and a layup to take the lead for good 30-28 with 1:38 left. Brooks Middle School Wins Basketbal Regional Crown

Brooks Middle School beat Jane Addams Middle School 45-36 Friday to win the Class 4A girls basketball regional championship.

Brooks Middle School exploded in the first quarter and never looked back as they clipped Jane Addams 45-36 Friday afternoon to win the Class 4A girls basketball regional championship. The Bulldogs advance to Wednesday's sectionals at Summit Hill in Frankfort against either Mokena or Homer with the winner moving on to the state quarterfinals. Two players registered double-doubles in the contest. Brooks' Talia Edwards tossed in 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to go with 4 steals, while Addams' Karly Seay nearly matched that with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Brooks Middle School Advances to 7th Grade Girls Basketball Sectional

Brooks Middle School topped Martinez Middle School in the regional final Tuesday 40-29.

Brooks Middle School exploded for 26 points in the third quarter enroute to a 40-29 7th grade girls basketball regional final victory over Martinez Middle School Tuesday. The Bulldogs (13-5) advance to the Homer sectional final at 6 p.m. Nov. 28 against either Summit Hill (Frankfort) or Mokena Junior High. Brooks forced 17 Vikings turnovers in that amazing third quarter converting a 31-7 run into a 36-24 lead that they never relinquished. Francesca Aniceto and April Lowery each grabbed three steals and Tsimba Malonga scored 11 of her game high 16 points in the period. Four Bolingbrook High School seniors signed their letters of intent Tuesday, officially committing to their respective college athletic careers.  Ben Moore, Brad Elmore, Dani Knaak and Kennedy Cattenhead signed their letters in a school ceremony.  Sport: Basketball  College: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign  High school career: Cattenhead earned Illinois Basketball Coaches Association special mention honors as a junior last year when the 5-10 Lady Raiders guard saw signficiant playing time. She averaged 5 points and 5 assists a game.  Why Illinois: "I like my new coaches, and the program. I also wanted to major in business, and they have an excellent business school. Bolingbrook Girls Basketball Defeats Joliet Catholic Academy

The Bolingbrook High School girls basketball team defeated Joliet Catholic Academy in the Pontiac Thanksgiving Tournament Monday.

The Bolingbrook High School girls basketball team defeated Joliet Catholic Academy Monday night in the Pontiac Thanksgiving Tournament 73-60.  Kennedy Cattenhead, a four-year varsity player, had 27 points, according to the Joliet Herald-News. Shay Robinson had 14 points and Amarah Coleman had 13. Bolingbrook forced 24 turnovers.  Bolingbrook held a slight lead against JCA in the third and held on for the win with an 18-9 closing run, according to the Herald-News.  Bolingbrook Coach Tony Smith told the Herald-News he's still figuring out a regular line-up after eight of the team's strongest players graduated last year.  “A lot of new faces, young faces,” he told the Herald-News. “We made the same mistakes we make in practice, so it’s a long…

Editor's note: The following is the press release from Valley View School District 365U.  Basketball fans will have an opportunity to check out the 2012-13 Bolingbrook High School boys basketball squad on Raider Madness Night Nov. 17. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a scrimmage involving middle school students. The varsity slam dunk contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. Other events for the evening include a 3-point shooting contest, raffles, a live DJ and lots of food. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.
