Look back at the great blizzard through statistics and pictures.
High temperatures in the area hovered around 58 degrees Tuesday. It’s hard to believe that exactly one year ago we were bracing for nearly two feet of snow. We’re taking a look back at the storm that buried Bolingbrook between Feb. 1-2, 2011, through pictures and statistics. We’ll all be that much more grateful for this year’s (so far) mild winter. All storm data comes from the National Weather Service. In many cases, data specific to Darien wasn’t available, so we used the next closest towns. Snowfall totals: Downers Grove got 21.1 inches of snow during the blizzard, while Willowbrook was buried under 20.1 inches. Romeoville got 16.3 inches. Blown away: Wind gusts of up to 59 mph hit Romeoville during the storm’s peak on Feb. 1, 2011. …

Given the cold and wintery scene outside, let’s take a look at a few wines and beers we can search out to warm our souls.
This winter weather has certainly made an impact for those of us in Chicagoland. Hopefully, everyone is safe and “weathering” the storm. Keeping with the festive nature of the season, the woodchuck saw his shadow this morning and we all know what that means—six more weeks of winter—I believe we all saw that one coming. Given the cold and wintery scene outside, let’s take a look at a few wines and beers we can search out to warm our souls. When the weather outside is cold, we can turn to many beverages to warm up. Many of us will choose hot chocolate, coffee, tea or other hot beverage drinks. But aside from those classic favorites, there are also some great wines that warm up very well and have a soothing element to them. One of these …

Despite treacherous conditions, the Bolingbrook Police Department received no phone calls about car accidents last night.

As of 3 a.m., more than 13 inches of snow had fallen in the area and many cars parked outside have been left buried in drifting snow. Bolingbrook Police Lieutenant Mike Rompa said the police department received 325 calls for service Tuesday. Yet, not one of those yielded injury. Patch lists tips from the the federal government regarding important steps to take before the snowfall hits.
A winter storm predicted to hit Chicagoland beginning Monday night and continuing until Wednesday morning has the attention of FEMAand the National Weather Service, which both have issued severe weather alerts. While the Bolingbrook Public Works Department works to clear the roads, household preparation is necessary, given the likelihood of the storm expanding from a wintry mix to a full-blown blizzard on Tuesday, when it is expected to keep residents indoors. The U.S. Government's "Ready America" Website (www.ready.gov/america) provides checklists and details on how to compile an emergency supply kit, a family emergency plan, and how to prepare your home, car and other pieces of technology individuals tend to rely on. The suggestions are …
