Village Board Secures Federal Money for Boughton Road Improvements

The village board approved a measure that secures a $2 million federal grant to repave Boughton Road.

Bolingbrook trustees Tuesday unanimously voted on a measure that will move along a $2.7 million agreement between the village and state to repave a portion of Boughton Road.  The measure will secure a $2 million federal grant from the Federal Highway Administration to repave the eastbound lanes of Boughton from Sunshine Drive to Schmidt Road. The other $700,000 will come out of the village's pocket. The board in April agreed to pay Rempe-Sharpe & Associates, Inc. no more than $80,000 to complete the resurfacing project. In February the board announced it would redo the entire eastbound portion of Boughton Road from Sunshine to Schmidt, which currently features a lengthy bump that village officials credit to an underground ComEd junction …

Governments, particularly left wing local administrations like Bolingbrook should not be in the business of running an enterprise such as the water. They should not be in the business of running anything other than local services. The Golf Course loses copious amounts of money, the airport loses money hourly and we would have been far better off if the Mayor had dug a pit and buried a $1 million …   more ›

Village Board Set to Vote on Budget

The $58.2 million budget will not result in any layoffs, village officials say.

It's last call for Bolingbrook residents looking to add their two cents in how village officials spend taxpayer dollars. Bolingbrook's Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the FY 2012 budget tonight. But first they'll need to hold a public hearing to gain local residents' input on the matter. Village officials had already held a budget workshop earlier this month. But after just six people showed up, Mayor Roger Claar said Bolingbrook residents lost their chance to weigh in and canceled the second two meetings. And although the board is unlikely to adopt any such input from tonight's public hearing, it does represent the last chance residents have to take issue with any part of the $58.2 million budget. Last year, the village's budget …

Placing your signs in Public Rights of Way IS Illegal and you and your crew have done it all over town. Weber Rd and I55 interchange in particular obstructs drivers view and is a HAZARD . Your folks should be responsible for paying the employees time for having to go out and remove them. But if they were RESPONSIBLE citizens they would KNOW the LAW already. Thanks Bonnie for jeopardizing the …   more ›

Bolingbrook's Third McDonald's Restaurant is On the Way

The fast food giant hopes to break ground in April and open the store, located on the east side of town, by the end of June.

Believe it or not, McDonald’s thinks Bolingbrook residents are being short-changed when it comes to dining options in the area surrounding The Promenade Bolingbrook. That’s why the famous fast food joint is building a third Bolingbrook location. McDonald’s, which already has restaurants off Route 53 and Weber Road, will build a 3,900-square-foot restaurant—equipped with a 24-hour, dual drive-thru—on one of the out lots in front of the new Costco. Outdoor seating will also be available.  The Bolingbrook Board of Trustees had to approve a series of ordinances Tuesday night to solidify the deal. McDonald’s officials said they hope to break ground in April and open by the end of June. Anita Thompson, the area construction manager for McDonald’…

Library Board Approves Tax Levy, Selects New Trustee

The Fountaindale Public Library board of trustees had a busy agenda Thursday night.

The Fountaindale Public Library's board of trustees approved a tax levy ordinance in the amount of $7.2 million Thursday night, immediately following a public hearing and the presentation of their financial audit for fiscal year 2009-10. The levy, which will be extended against taxable property within the library's district, will cover the library's projected fiscal year 2010-11 expenditures and includes a $5.9 million general corporate fund —$3.3 million of which is allocated to pay salaries. The remainder of the full ordinance will provide liability insurance, Social Security and Illinois Municipal Retirement Funds, materials, services, supplies and utilities. According to library documents, the projected $7.2 million expenditures are up…

I believe it would be good idea for the board to publish openly the trips to conferences and seminars to out of state conferences for board members so the taxpayers can judge whether this is money well spent. I stand by my comment of being disrespected when I asked what the library was doing to cut expenses in the current economy. My question was not answered. Continuing to send board members …   more ›

Village Will Sue Water Company

Bolingbrook's Board of Trustees will move forward with a lawsuit against Illinois American Water.

Bolingbrook is suing the state's largest water provider, which says it has no clue as to why. The village trustees voted to sue Illinois American Water Tuesday night at the board's regularly scheduled meeting. Mayor Roger Claar said the suit involves breach of contract, particularly with the "service they are providing and how it is charged." This suit has nothing to do with eminent domain, Claar said, which has been the subject of controversy in recent months. Officials said more details would be available when the suit is filed, which village attorney Jim Boan said would likely be by month's end. Kevin Hillen, the operations superintendent with Illinois American Water, said the company has no clue why the village is suing them and was …

Library Board Tours Construction Site

Fountaindale Public Library officials surveyed the progress of the new $43 million building on Saturday.

The Fountaindale Public Library Board of Trustees held a special meeting on Saturday morning to tour its new building. Architect Donald J. McKay—of Nagle, Hartray, Danker, Kagan, McKay and Penney Architects, LTD.—led a group of five trustees and the library director through each floor of the building and pointed out special areas of progress, features and layout. "The environment changes from one floor to another to give you an idea of where you are," McKay said to the group. The main floor of the new library will house the circulation desk, meeting rooms, and a children's area. The second floor includes computer stations and a young adult section. The third floor, which will house the library's non-fiction collection, also includes a …

Just a point of clarification. The original bond issue for the Fountaindale Public Library District passed by the voters in February 2008 did include the portion of Romeoville that was in the Fountaindale Public Library District. However, in August of 208, the Romeoville portion of the Fountaindale Public Library District was transferred to DesPlaines Valley Public Library District by court order…   more ›
