The father of the homeowner and a Bolingbrook Fire Department Firefighter were both taken to the hospital.
When firefighters arrived at the home in the 200 block of Lee Lane in Bolingbrook, they knew someone was trapped inside. "Neighbors were walking around and reported hearing someone yelling for help," Bolingbrook Fire Department Battalion Chief Dan Graff said. Firefighters got the man out of the building and he was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. His name, age and condition were not available Saturday. In addition to the man, who is thought to be the father of the homeowner and not a resident of the home, a firefighter was also taken to the hospital with a rapid heartbeat. The village of Bolingbrook has removed the position of fire chief from its budget, effective May 1.
A traditional chief will no longer be at the helm of the Bolingbrook Fire Department come spring, when a reorganization is scheduled to go into effect. The village has cut the position from its Fiscal Year 2014 budget, which runs from May 1, 2013 to April 30, 2014, according to documents Patch received through a Freedom of Information Act request. Starting then, department personnel will no longer report to current Fire Chief Dave Litton. Instead, they'll answer to Bolingbrook Police Chief Kevin McCarthy, whose title is redefined as "public safety director" in the budget documents, which were the most updated reports available. The village of Bolingbrook will purchase two new "jaws of life" for the Bolingbrook Fire Department using funds from a federal grant. The total cost for the equipment will be $55,176, according to village documents. The "jaws of life" are hydraulic rescue tools that Bolingbrook fire officials use to extricate people following car accidents. Three people were home at the time of the Jan. 20 fire, according to the Bolingbrook Fire Department.
One person suffered minor injuries following a garage fire that spread through a Bolingbrook home Sunday morning, according to Bolingbrook Fire Department officials. The fire broke out around 10 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Grant Drive. A homeowner said the fire ignited when fuel leaked from a car onto a drop light, according to Bolingbrook Deputy Chief Trinedad Garza. When fire crews arrived to the ranch-style home, there was heavy fire in the front of the home and garage. Three people were home at the time of the fire, and all were outside when fire crews arrived. An adult burn victim refused medical treatment on the scene.
