Bolingbrook High School junior Mary Kate Ramsay will compete at the National Baton Twirling Association's Illinois State Twirling Championships this summer.
With one state title already under her belt, Bolingbrook High School junior Mary Kate Ramsay is preparing for the National Baton Twirling Association’s Illinois State Twirling Championships in Zion this summer. Mary Kate, who started twirling at the age of three when she says she already starting planning on following in the footsteps of her mother, grandmother and aunt, won the United States Twirling Association’s state crown earlier this year and finished in the top 10 at the NBTA national championships last year. The former Georgia resident attributes her twirling success to her mother, Dee Ramsay, who is also a former state champion, her grandmother, and her coach, Tammi Conn, who she affectionately calls “TJ”. Two Valley View School District 365U athletes turned in top-10 performances at the IHSA girls state track championships over the weekend. Bolingbrook High School sophomore Jessica Watkins finished 9th in the state in both the 100 meter dash (12.44) and 200 meter dash (25.99). Nichole Evans graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana May 12.
A recent University of Illinois grad is now a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Nichole Evans, a Bolingbrook resident and former Bolingbrook High School student, graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana May 12 with a degree in agricultural engineering. On May 13, she was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant to begin her pilot training.

Eight Bolingbrook High School students medaled at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Conference with one student, Phoebe Mondala, qualifying for the national competition in Nashville July 7. Mondala was selected as Illinois Ambassador to the FCCLA National Conference after earning a Gold in the Fashion Construction category for her Garment, presentation and “Secret Garden” story board. Other BHS Gold Medal winners at the state level included Cassidy Gould and Milan Jones, Apparel Construction; Holly Sluga and Dayle Tiejens, Pastry Arts Frosted Cake; and Yahaira Quinones, Pastry Arts Fondant Cake. Two Bolingbrook High School graduates and the son of Bolingbrook High School Principal Michael White signed with three different teams this week.

Roosevelt Holliday, who played at Eastern Illinois University, has been signed to the New York Jets. Holliday played 12 games at Eastern and had 57 tackles, one sack and eight tackles for loss. Kenneth Boatright, who played at Southern Illinois University, was signed to the Seattle Seahawks. Boatright played in 11 games and had 62 tackles, 6 sacks and 14 tackles for loss. Myles White, son of BHS Principal Michael White, was recently signed to the Green Bay Packers.

While she pursues her Bachelor’s Degree, Bolingbrook High School graduate Anna Kopsky is having a great time as a staff member at WSSR-FM/Star 96.7 Radio. The 20-year-old former BHS National Honor Society President, Raiderette and Homecoming Queen has been working in radio since she was 14. These days she can be heard from 5 to 9 a.m. weekdays delivering news and traffic reports and serving as co-host of the "Cooper in the Morning Show." Kopsky hopes to graduate from North Central College two terms early in November. Before landing a job at Star 96.7, she interned for almost a year at 95.9 “The River” both on-air and in the promotions department, and at 100.7 Q-Rock on the air. Eleven Bolingbrook High School Mathletes will compete in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics state finals at the University of Illinois May 4. Two students, freshman Jeremy Kerevich and senior Samantha Patterson, qualified at regionals in two different areas. Other qualifiers include freshmen Janina Nguyen, Rohit Banerjee and Maddie Aaggio; sophomores Ashley Wheaton, Devin Oliver, R.D.
