Trustees are not "puppets," Trustee Joseph Morelli announced at the village of Bolingbrook meeting last week.
The village of Bolingbrook swore in its newly elected trustees last week, presenting an opportunity for some interesting commentary from the trustees and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar. After Maria Zarate, who replaces Sandy Swinkunas, and Joseph Morelli, an incumbent, were sworn in, Morelli told the public that trustees are not "puppets." Trustees are "criticized occasionally for always voting yes," Claar said during the meeting, according to the Chicago Tribune. But the consistent, unanimous votes and "lack of trustee discussion on most town agenda items was a reflection of the village government's efficiency," Claar said. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar was elected Tuesday night for his eighth term in office.
Mayor Roger Claar may or may not run for Bolingbrook mayor again in 2017. The mayor told the Bolingbrook Reporter he would not rule out a ninth term, and that his eighth term was "possibly his last in office." Claar has already been mayor in Bolingbrook for 26 years. "In the last 26 years this town has changed dramatically," Claar told the Bolingbrook Reporter. "I'm proud to say that Bolingbrook has a multitude of wonderful public amenities. It was a huge team effort to get to where we are today." Claar was elected to his eighth term Tuesday.
