Bolingbrook’s crime rate dropped for the fourth straight year, according to crime statistics recently released by the FBI. Once riddled with a 25.09 crime rate in 2001, the village has seen its rate decrease to 18.86 in 2011. The crime rate is the number of violent crimes that occur per 1,000 residents and is calculated by dividing the village’s total population by number of violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery, assault), property crimes (burglary, larceny, car theft) and arson. Incidents of thefts and arson decreased from 2010 to 2011. Murder stayed constant, and rape, robbery, battery, burglary and vehicle theft increased.
