The village of Bolingbrook has removed the position of fire chief from its budget, effective May 1.
Bolingbrook Fire Chief Dave Litton is in the running to become fire chief of a Milwaukee suburb. Litton is one of four finalists applying to become fire chief of the Waukesha Fire Department, according to Waukesha Patch. He is one of two outside candidates applying for the job; two current Waukesha Fire employees are also in the running. The Waukesha Police and Fire Commission will interview the finalists again the week of April 8. There were a total of 48 applicants seeking the top position in the Waukesha Fire Department. Bolingbrook's fire chief position will be cut, effective May 1, when the village will combine its police and fire chief positions. The village of Bolingbrook will combine the position of director of community development and public works into one position by May 1.
The village of Bolingbrook plans to combine the duties of both the director of community development and director of public works come May 1. Patch reported March 4 that the director of community development would be cut from the village's 2013-2014 budget. Dennis Kowalczyk currently serves as the director of community development. Kowalczyk earned a salary of almost $90,000 in 2012 with almost $37,000 in benefits. Michael Drey served as the current director of public works. He is the village's highest paid employee, with a salary of $124,000 and almost $42,000 in benefits. The village of Bolingbrook has removed the position of fire chief from its budget, effective May 1.
A traditional chief will no longer be at the helm of the Bolingbrook Fire Department come spring, when a reorganization is scheduled to go into effect. The village has cut the position from its Fiscal Year 2014 budget, which runs from May 1, 2013 to April 30, 2014, according to documents Patch received through a Freedom of Information Act request. Starting then, department personnel will no longer report to current Fire Chief Dave Litton. Instead, they'll answer to Bolingbrook Police Chief Kevin McCarthy, whose title is redefined as "public safety director" in the budget documents, which were the most updated reports available.
