Claar on Boughton Construction: 'It's Not Looking Good at This Point'

Crews are ready to begin the Boughton Road construction project, village officials say. IDOT's slow pace holding timeline up.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said he is becoming agitated at the snail's pace the Illinois Department of Transportation is holding when it comes to processing the necessary paperwork to begin construction on Boughton Road. Bolingbrook officials announced the $3 million project in February. Ultimately, the entire eastbound portion of Boughton Road from Sunshine Drive to Schmidt Road will be repaved in efforts to fix a rough portion of road that has drawn the ire of residents and officials alike. IDOT officials in October told Claar they planned on expediting the process so crews could begin as quickly as possible. Claar has said that if construction delays too long, the project would be shelved until the spring. Now, village officials are …

Village Has New Hope for Start Date of Boughton Construction

The Illinois Department of Transportation has bid out the contracts for the Boughton Road construction project, meaning crews could begin working to repair the road before the first snowfall.

Good news for frequent travelers of Boughton Road: Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said the Illinois Department of Transportation has bid out the Boughton Road construction project and IDOT officials have told Claar they plan on expediting the process so crews can begin as quickly as possible. That means instead of construction workers beginning the project next spring, which Claar had hinted at in late-September, work could begin as soon as a few weeks. Still, the start date is up in the air. But Claar said he still hopes that the road could be fixed by the end of this year. The village had been waiting on IDOT to bid out the contract.  The village has been planning the $3 million project since February. Ultimately, the entire eastbound …

Yes, especially in the winter months, the east bound lanes are really bad. You have to either drive close to the curb or find yourself in drop-off sections as the road shifts horribly! It may be a pain the neck for two-three weeks, but this section of road is in definite need of repair.   more ›

Claar: Boughton Road Construction Could Be Delayed

Bolingbrook officials are waiting on IDOT to bid out the contract for the Boughton Road reconstruction project, which should last about two to three weeks once started.

Construction to repair a bumpy eastbound portion of Boughton Road could be delayed until next year if progress on the project isn't made soon, Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said. Claar said the village is waiting on the Illinois Department of Transportation to bid out the contract. IDOT opened the bid on Sept. 23, but Claar said if state bureaucracy holds up the bidding process, the project could be pushed back to next spring. "Completion of the project all depends on how quickly IDOT awards the contract and gets started," he said. "I am hoping that we will get it done before the snow flies. I do not want to see the road torn up with barricades sitting there on the corner and then we can't get it done. (If that were the case) I would …

The Name Game: A Bolingbrook History Lesson

Find out how some Bolingbrook schools, roads and buildings got their namesakes.

What’s in a name? Well, for Bolingbrook a whole lot of history. Just about anywhere you look, Bolingbrook history is screaming out—whether in the form of the names of streets and schools or buildings and parks. And in case you aren’t one of the handful of folks that are in the know, here’s a quick primer: Boardman Cemetery One of the most historic places in all of Bolingbrook is on the north end of town. The Boardman Cemetery is the resting place of many of the early pioneers in the area. The cemetery is named after Captain Harry Boardman, who set aside a couple of acres of his land for a community burial ground in 1832. He also served DuPage Township as "Overseer of the Poor." Royce Road Bordering the north side of the village, Royce Road…

Village: Lily Cache Construction Nearly Complete

Bolingbrook Director of Public Works says construction crews could be complete with the Lily Cache Lane project in three weeks.

Bolingbrook residents have become accustom to road construction on Lily Cache Lane.  Later this month, that reality will be a thing of the past. Bolingbrook Director of Public Works Mike Drey said the fourth and final phase of the Lily Cache construction project should be completed in about three weeks—maybe less. The project has been nearly seven years in the making and has already revamped Lily Cache Lane into a four-lane road from Route 53 to Creekside Drive. Now, crews are putting the final touches on the landscaped median and installing pedestrian signals. All that's left to complete the project will be to surface and stripe the portion between Creekside and Veterans Parkway, Drey said.  The fourth phase cost roughly $7 million, $4.8 …

Village: Boughton Road Construction to Begin in September

Bolingbrook officials said they hope to have the eastbound lanes repaved by end of October.

Village officials say they'll wait until crews complete the fourth and final phase of the Lily Cache Lane construction project before they begin tearing up and repaving the eastbound lanes of Boughton Road. “We don’t want to tie up traffic on two of our major arterial roads through town at the same time,” said Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar at the village board meeting earlier this week. Claar said construction should begin in early September. The board announced in February that it would redo the entire eastbound portion of Boughton Road from Sunshine Drive to Schmidt Road, which features a lengthy bump that village officials say is due to an underground ComEd junction box. The village received a $2 million federal grant to help complete …
