The Chicago area could set a new winter record Monday. This time, 280. A measurable snowfall is more than 0.1 of an inch, the Trib reports. The National Weather Service is predicting a 30 percent chance of snow showers and a chance for flurries with a high of 35 degrees for Monday. Temperatures will remain unseasonably warm later in the week with predicted highs in the mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service. This season’s lack of snow coupled with last winter’s below average snow total is not helping with the drought conditions the area has …

Update: The Chicago Tribune changed its headline — is it because they saw this?
The Chicago Tribune reported today that Drew Peterson is dropping an appeal that he never made in the first place. "Drew Peterson drops appeal, says he's ready for trial to begin," blares the story's headline (which has since been changed. Now he's dropping a "battle." Can you drop a battle?). Except there's no appeal to drop. The story also said Peterson's lawyers sent a motion to the Third District Appellate Court in Ottawa in hopes of hurrying the case along by waiving a mandatory 35-day waiting period. Except for the 35-day waiting period is mandatory. Peterson has been locked up in the Will County jail for nearly three years while he waits on the start of his trial on charges he murdered his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Peterson is …

Advanced Placement offerings were focus of Washington Post's list of top secondary schools.
Bolingbrook High School and Romeoville High School—the two high schools in the Valley View School District—were left off a list identifying the state’s top high schools for college preparation by the Washington Post based on its Advanced Placement offerings. The Post’s High School Challenge recognized more than 1,900 schools across the nation and 86 schools in Illinois. Schools were assigned a ratio based on the number of AP or other college-level tests taken in 2010 by the number of graduating seniors. According to the Post, the rankings “can reveal the level of a high school’s commitment to preparing average students for college.” Students who enroll in AP courses study college-level material. Successful scores on the AP course test at …

Antonio Morrison has been fielding offers from several prominent NCAA football programs, including the NCAA runner up.
Antonio Morrison, a Bolingbrook Raider linebacker, has spent much of his Bolingbrook High School career punishing opposing offenses. Now, it appears he’ll get the chance to take his talents to the next level. And by the looks of things, he’ll be doing it on a grand stage. Already fielding offers from Illinois, Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Illinois, Morrison recently snagged an offer from Oregon, according to a report. And according to a Twitter post from Scout.com's Allen Trieu, Morrison grabbed an offer from Tennessee on Wednesday. Oregon played in the national championship last season, falling 22-19 to Auburn. "It feels pretty good to get an offer from Oregon," Morrison told the Chicago Tribune. "They played in the national championship …

Ron Santo, beloved No. 10 and Chicago Cubs third baseman, died early Friday morning at the age of 70.
I come from a long line of diehard Chicago Cubs fans. The kind that stand outside on Waveland Avenue during games with a mitt waiting to catch the next home run ball. The kind that opt to sit in the bleachers with Ronnie Woo Woo, because even though they may get beer spilled on them, everyone knows they're the best seats in the house. And the kind that mute the TV to pair a game with the hometown call on WGN radio. I think that's what I'll miss most about Ron Santo. Swimming in the backyard pool at my parents' house as a kid, listening to Ronnie banter with fellow Cubs radio legend, Pat Hughes, on 720-AM about the time he burned his hair. Without ever realizing his dream of seeing his team win a World Series, the legend, eternal Cubs …
