Chick-fil-A Backs Away from Funding Anti-Gay Organizations

In a letter to Chicago alderman Joe Moreno, Chick-fil-A said it would not support organizations with political agendas.

Chick-fil-A will cease donations to anti-gay organizations and is circulating an internal memo to treat everyone equally, regardless of sexual oritentation, according to a release by the organization The Civil Rights Agenda.  The Civil Rights Agenda, said it worked closely with Alderman Joe Moreno as he negotiated with executives of Chick-fil-A. After Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said his business was "guilty as charged" in support of the "biblical definition of the family unit," Moreno said he would use aldermanic privilege to block a proposed Chick-fil-A from opening in his ward.  READ MORE:  A letter addressed to Alderman Moreno and signed by Chick-fil-A’s Senior Director of Real Estate states: “The WinShape Foundations is now taking…

1,100 Apply for Chick-fil-A Jobs in Bolingbrook

See how many landed a position at Chick-fil-A's newest location in Bolingbrook.

About 1,100 people applied for jobs at Bolingbrook's Chick-fil-A, according to franchise owner Mark E. Stearns.  From the hundreds of applicants, 70 people were initially hired for positions. Those 70 were chosen mainly for their attitude, Stearns said.  "For a lot of them, this is their first job," he said. "We'll focus on the right work ethic and how to work together as a team."  READ MORE:  Stearns said Chick-fil-A's goal is to teach its employees how to serve.  "We want to ensure our customers receive excellent service -- service they'll remember," he said. No Protest Planned for Bolingbrook Chick-fil-A Opening

Some may still protest Thursday's opening of the new restaurant, following comments by the chain's president against same-sex marriage in July.

No official protests have been announced for Thursday's opening of Chick-fil-A in Bolingbrook.  The Bolingbrook restaurant will open in a new building at 245 N. Weber Rd., in front of the Meijer at the intersection of Weber and Boughton Road Wednesday. More than 100 people camped outside Chick-fil-A for free food for a year. Hear their stories here.  Lea Anne Stoughton, president of the great Joliet area chapter of PFLAG, had said in August she was in the process of talking with other members of her chapter and "gauging the willingness" to organize a Bolingbrook protest. PFLAG stands for Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays.  "The goal is to say, 'Here are some things you may want to know before you eat at Chick-fil-A,'" …

100+ Camp Out for Free Chick-fil-A in Bolingbrook

The parking lot of the new restaurant, which will open Thursday, has been filled with tents, canopies and folding chairs of the waiting "First 100."

Cars driving past the new Chick-fil-A location in Bolingbrook had a sight to see Wednesday.  Brightly colored tents and canopies filled the parking lot near the new restaurant as the "First 100" and their alternates passed the time at card tables or milled around on the blacktop.  No protest planned for Bolingbrook Chick-fil-A opening, so far.  Some came from Indiana, Ohio or from just down the block. For many it was a repeat Chick-fil-A campout experience. It was the tenth opening for Naperville couple Heide and Denis Rewerts. Several cars on their way to Meijer slowed down to ask the campers just what they were doing.  Camping outside of Chick-fil-A, for the tenth time   For Naperville couple Heide and Denis Rewerts, the Bolingbrook …

Chick-fil-A Protest Possible for Bolingbrook, Already Planned for Oswego

A protest may be in the works for the opening of a Bolingbrook Chick-fil-A. One is already planned for a Chick-fil-A opening in Oswego.

Protest planned for Oswego location  A local resident is asking the community to join a peaceful protest when Oswego’s Chick-fil-A restaurant opens Thursday, Aug. 23, in light of recent remarks the fast food chain's president made against same sex marriage. Beck Gibson, an Oswego High School graduate, has organized this Facebook page advertising the Oswego protest.  The protest, slated for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Route 34 store will entail, according to the event page, “peacefully standing across the street and letting everyone that eats there and anyone passing by know by eating there you are funding hate.” Protest possible in Bolingbrook  A similar protest could also take place outside of Bolingbrook's new Chick-fil-A. The …

It is a really dumb thing to protest against Chic-Fil-A because the CEO is against gay marriage. That's his right. I also am against gay marriage. I believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect, but we should not change what has served humanity for thousands of years. Marriage has, and always should be, between a man and a woman. The bible teaches this, common sense teaches this.   more ›

Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day Draws Crowds Supporting 'Traditional Marriage'

"Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" brought large crowds of people out in support of the chain's stance on same-sex marriage and "free speech" on Wednesday around the Chicago area.

Judging by the hundreds standing in line Wednesday, a passerby might have thought the Chick-fil-A near Fox Valley Mall in Naperville was giving away food, but the crowd was actually there to support the chain restaurant and its CEO’s vocal opposition to gay marriage. After recent criticism toward Chick-fil-A and its president Dan Cathy, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee dubbed Aug. 1 as “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" on his Facebook page, which brought supporters out in droves to the Aurora location near the Naperville border. By 2 p.m., many customers had been waiting in line outside for two to three hours while bearing temperatures in the high 80s. Cars also packed the parking lot and zigzagged from the drive-thru windows out into …

Long Lines Form for 'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day'

People arrived in droves to show support for Chick-fil-A in Orland Park. Long lines were also seen in Naperville.

Hundreds of people arrived in droves to the Orland Park Chick-fil-A location Wednesday to show support for the fast food chain and its president's beliefs against same-sex marriage.  Wednesday was dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. The Facebook page for the day garnered thousands of likes from supporters.  Long lines were seen at both the Orland Park and Naperville Chick-fil-A locations.  A Chick-fil-A will open in Bolingbrook on Sept. 6.  Last month, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said his business was "guilty as charged" in support of the "biblical definition of the family unit," according to the AP. The comment unleased a "torrent of criticism," the Chicago Sun-Times reported, from gay rights …

NH Chick-Fil-A to Sponsor Pride Fest

A franchise owner takes a bold step away from the food chain's gay marriage stance.

This story comes to us from Nashua Patch. A Chick-fil-A restaurant will open in Bolingbrook Sept. 6.  Our coverage on the Bolingbrook opening is here:  NASHUA, NH - Ryan Manseau has learned to expect the unexpected. For example, he walked into the Pheasant Lane Mall looking for a fight. He was all ready to metaphorically shake his fist at Chick-Fil-A over its corporate stance on gay marriage, something company CEO Dan Cathy recently said, invites "God's judgement on our nation." Instead, Manseau ended up shaking hands with local franchise owner Anthony Piccola, so to speak, as they struck an unexpected deal. "It started out as a prank," said Manseau, senior director of the NH Pride Fest, of his gay pride canvassing at the mall. His plan …

So, this franchise doesn't get the idea, either. Doesn't matter who supports whom, it's Freedom of Speech. I hope this store enjoys their own rights, while, dismissing the actual idea of what has taken place. I was going to go the ten miles to your shop, but that's ok.
