Raiders Eye Vikings in Gridiron Grudgematch

Bolingbrook looks to avenge last year's loss to Homewood-Flossmoor, while handing the Vikings a second straight defeat.

Whether the scoreboard indicates it or not, each week provides an unique challenge to the Bolingbrook High School football team. After back-to-back blowouts of Joliet Central and Joliet West on their home turf, the Raiders take to the road for their biggest challenge yet — a grudge match against Homewood-Flossmoor. Quarterback Aaron Bailey said he and his teammates began looking forward to the game as soon as they clinched their 49-12 victory against Joliet West on Sept. 16. “Once we hit the locker room, we were saying we have a big one next week. We're going to H-F and we know they're not going to lay down,” Bailey said. “They're a very tough team. They're going to be hungry and they'll probably try to take it out on us. But we'll be …

Raiders Steamroll Steelmen 60-6 In Home Opener

The Bolingbrook Raiders pounced on the visiting Joliet Central Steelmen with 60 first-half points en route to a 60-6 win in the team's home opener.

Bolingbrook had its way with Joliet Central from wire-to-wire Friday, asserting its dominance early with intimidation and turning into points early and often. The Raiders scored 60 first-half points en route to a 60-6 win against the Steelmen. Bolingbrook improved its record to 3-0 after the 54-point rout. Head coach John Ivlow said after shuffling some pieces around the roster, the team has begun to settle in after three games. "We've had some concerns. We've had to shuffle a couple of guys around, but the guys are starting to find their home and they're doing a nice job at the positions they're in," Ivlow said. Bolingbrook executed flawlessly in nearly all facets of the game. Joliet Central won the coin toss, but did not find itself on…

Once again, Bolingbrook Patch is the only media with an in-depth story on the Raider football game. Kudos to you! Where is the Herald-News? They went to a 6-day newspaper, and instead of clipping off Monday's daily, in their infinite wisdom they now have no Saturday paper. Where is the Bolingbrook Sun? It was waaay too late for their Friday edition. They'll have a recap just in time for …   more ›

Ivlow Reflects on Raider Football Season

The Bolingbrook Raiders fell hard in the opener of the IHSA Class 8A playoffs, but head coach John Ivlow saw encouraging signs in the 2010 season.

John Ivlow's Bolingbrook Raiders had their football season come to an inglorious halt last week.  Facing a powerful foe in the Mount Carmel Caravan, the Raiders fell 55-27 in the first round of the Class 8A playoffs, lowering their final record to 5-5. But Bolingbrook's head coach didn't see the 2010 campaign as a mediocre season. "This group was 1-7, 3-6 as sophomores. They started off with 120 kids and we ended with under 30 seniors," Ivlow said of his upperclassmen. "I think this is a success for them — I really do. "Considering our season and the close games, it could easily have been 3-6, 2-7 — or it could have been 7-2. Regardless, I'm proud of what they're doing." Through the early part of the season, Bolingbrook looked as if it …

Raider Football Preparing for Caravan Challenge

The Bolingbrook High School football team overcame its fair share of adversity to make it into the IHSA playoffs. With a clean slate, the Raiders travel to play Mount Carmel in Chicago with championship aspirations in tow.

D.J. Pruitt, a jack of all trades for the Bolingbrook High School football team, believes the Raiders finally are playing as a unified front. "It feels like we're a team," the junior wideout/quarterback said after the Raiders clinched a playoff spot. "I can honestly say that for the first time this season we feel like a team. We've finally pulled it together." And the timing could not be better. Bolingbrook (5-4) took the back door into the IHSA playoff picture with a 54-27 victory over Lincoln-Way Central, putting to bed a three-game losing streak and finishing a season full of concerns and questions with an exclamation point. The Raiders open their playoff run at 4 p.m. Friday at Gately Stadium in Chicago, where they will square off …

Raiders Playoff Eligible After Huge Win Over L-Way Central

Bolingbrook racked up 329 rushing yards en route to a 54-27 victory in Southwest Suburban Blue play.

The Bolingbrook Raiders ran circles around the Lincoln-Way Central Knights, then ran right into the playoff picture. Bolingbrook accumulated 329 rushing yards in a 54-27 victory to close the regular season on Friday night. After three straight losing weeks, the Raiders (5-4, 4-3) made themselves playoff eligible by jumping on the Knights (1-8, 1-6) early before holding off a late charge. "It feels good to get a win going into the playoffs and boost our confidence going into the next game," Bolingbrook senior running back Malik Snapp said. "If we had lost this one, we would be going home. And as a senior, that would have been the last game I would have played in high school. I wasn't ready to go home yet." Snapp took it upon himself early …

Big Plays Elude Bolingbrook in Loss to Homewood-Flossmoor

The host Raiders can't match the Vikings' offense in a key Southwest Suburban Blue football showdown.

As a team on one sideline celebrated making a big play, players on the team residing on the other sideline wondered how the big play continuously eluded them. In the end, it was Homewood-Flossmoor's ability to cash in on its scoring chances and Bolingbrook's struggles in the turnover department that was the difference in a 19-6 victory for the visiting Vikings. Raiders head coach John Ivlow said the primary goal Friday was to halt the Vikings' difference makers. Despite identifying the match-up problems, the game plan was to no avail. "They've got a lot of big-play players over there, so slowing them down was the key," Ivlow said. "Going into this game we knew they were going to give us trouble on offense. Their offense was going to give …

Raiders Win Despite Losing Bailey in First Quarter

Bolingbrook spoiled Joliet West's homecoming with a 32-20 win behind D.J. Pruitt's performance at quarterback in relief of starter Aaron Bailey.

JOLIET -- DJ Pruitt put forth quite a pinch-hit performance in Bolingbrook's 32-20 football victory over Joliet West on Saturday afternoon. With starting quarterback Aaron Bailey sidelined because of an ankle injury sustained at the end of the game's first quarter, Pruitt's 189 yards of total offense and two touchdowns, and a new-look Raider defense helped spoil the Tigers' homecoming party. The win also maintained Bolingbrook's position atop the Southwest Suburban Blue Conference standings with a 4-1 overall record, 3-0 in conference play. Bailey, who leads the Raiders in scoring, injured his right ankle on a first-down rush at the end of the first quarter and never returned. He eventually left the stadium at halftime to get X-rays on his…
