Once complete, the path that goes through Joliet will connect to DuPage County on the north and Channahon on the south.
A one-mile extention to the DuPage River Trail will soon be complete. "We aquired the property and we are extending the trail one mile north to connect with the trail that is already in place," Bruce Hodgdon, Forest Preserve District of Will County spokesperson said. But, when the trail is completed, it will be much larger. Eventually, the DuPage River trail will expand from Will County north to link up with trails in DuPage County. To the south, it will extend to Channahon. "Originally, it was envisioned to run down to Shorewood, but then it was possibly to run to Channahon," Hodgdon said. The Forest Preserve District of Will County has planned a variety of free, fun learning activities for kids and their families at several of its locations in the area, Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville, and Riverview Farmstead and Whalon Lake Preserve, both in Naperville. Here are a few of the family activities planned by the forest preserve district this week: Wednesday, June 27, beginning at 1 p.m., “Discovery Isle,” a free, all-ages program for the entire family, is planned at Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville. The Forest Preserve District of Will County has planned a variety of free, fun learning activities for kids and their families at two area forest preserve locations, Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville and Riverview Farmstead in Naperville. Isle a la Cache Museum, located on the 100-acre Isle a la Cache Preserve on an island in the Des Plaines River, provides interpretation of the 18th-century fur trade history of the area, through interactive exhibits, a display area and native landscaping. Riverview Farmstead includes a mid-1800s limestone house, an early frame residence that had been converted to a barn, and a large timber frame barn, as well as a one-mile asphalt trail, canoe launch and landing, picnic shelter with electricity and …

The 29th annual “Island Rendezvous,” a free, all-age family program sponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Will County, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at Isle a la Cache Museum, 501 E. 135th St., (Romeo Road), 1/2-mile mile east of Route 53 in Romeoville. The Island Rendezvous features re-enactors and entertainers portraying traders, explorers and Native Americans in the 18th century. Visitors can wander through a voyageur encampment and observe period crafts, watch demonstrations of 18th century skills and enjoy live period music. You don't have to travel to a district facility to get a permit for your pooch; bring Fido along to any of the three Will County dog parks and pick one up for $15 on Saturday.
You can treat your pooch to a day at the park and score a dog park pass, courtesy of the Forest Preserve District of Will County. Forest preserve staff will be out in force Saturday at the district’s three dog parks, selling half-year permits for $15 per dog to Will County pet owners and $30 for out-of-county residents. The permits, which are required in order for four-legged friends to enjoy the parks, are good through the end of 2011. Up to three dogs may be included on one permit. Discounted rates of $10 per dog for Will County residents and $20 for non-residents are available to seniors age 65 and older.
