The Fountaindale Public Library was rated as one of the best public libraries in the country according to an index released by the Library Journal.
When compared to similar libraries, the Fountaindale Public Library stands above many, according to a new index put out by the Library Journal. Fountaindale ranked 21st overall out of 211 public libraries across the country in its category bracket in the annual Index of Library Service. The library was also one of 30 libraries across the country in its bracket to receive a star rating based on its overall score and one of 18 libraries in Illinois across all brackets to receive any kind of star rating, the release said. “This is truly an honor to receive recognition of the outstanding service our staff provides to our community day in and day out,” said Peggy Danhof, president of the Fountaindale board of trustees. “We always knew we had a …

1. Summer Doldrums for Village Board Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar ended Tuesday's village board meeting by hinting the village may cancel a meeting or two before the summer is over. Agendas for the last couple of meetings have been fairly light in terms of action needed from board members. Claar said it's pointless to bring community members out to the village town center, only to have them realize the meeting will be short-lived. The village board's next meeting, scheduled for July 26, will still be had because the board will take action on several financial resolutions, village attorney Jim Boan said. Meetings in August and September, though, might be consolidated into one per month, Claar said. Be sure to check back with Bolingbrook …

Fountaindale Public Library officials said they have been having trouble for weeks with thieves entering the library and targeting its music and DVD collection. In one case, as many as 40 CDs were taken in one day. Allegedly, the thieves come in and remove the discs from the cases and take off with the items. Peggy Danhoff, president of the library's board of trustees, said the only way to stop the issue is to make the multimedia collection off limits to browsing library goers, and put the CDs and DVDs in a locked case. The library has long put electronic tags on the cases of CDs and DVDs, Danhoff said. But thieves simply take the disc out and walk out unnoticed.
