Andy's Frozen Custard will host a fundraiser in support of the Kiwanis Club of Bolingbrook & Romeoville. Make a purchase between 5 and 10 p.m. today and 20 percent of all sales will be donated to the club benefiting the Eliminate Project, a Kiwanis global campaign for children. Through the project, members are teaming up with Unicef to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. Andy's Frozen Custard is located at 260 S. Weber Road. The community is invited to help bring new technology to students at Pioneer Elementary School through an upcoming fundraiser. Members of the school’s PTO are coordinating a fundraiser selling coupon books to help purchase a SMART Board for Pioneer’s Technology Lab. The interactive whiteboard includes a large white board, computer and a projector. With the SMART Board, teachers and students can access the Internet, specially designed applications and software. The board can be written on and responds to touch. “The Technology Lab is used by all grade levels at Pioneer, so it will directly impact every student at the school,” PTO Co-President Karen Bartosiak said. A Haircut-a-thon will be held this weekend for a 14-year-old Downers Grove boy who was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Darien in February. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Macy's Salon and Spa in The Promenade Bolingbrook, with all of the proceeds going to the family of Hunter Himes. For the fourth consecutive year, Sport Clips Haircuts locations in the greater Chicago area have joined in the fight against childhood cancer by setting shears in motion at the annual Bolingbrook 4 Kids head shaving event benefitting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The “Let Your Love Shine” brunch is slated for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Sarah and Joseph Levy Center, 241 Canterbury Ln., Bolingbrook. The folks at Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry have been keeping busy. Recently, the nonprofit was honored for its tax assistance program, helped families get ready for back to school and now is preparing for an upcoming fundraiser. Next month, the organization and Literacy DuPage will benefit from a fundraising program that will have area businesses donating a portion of their gross receipts. The mayors of Naperville and Wheaton have proclaimed Sept. 15 Literally Ending Hunger Together Day, according to Loaves & Fishes. Operation Welcome You Home hosts first event Aug. 13.
Whenever soliders return home after being deployed, the folks at Operation Welcome You Home do their best to give them a joyous reception. Those welcome homes are important to both the volunteers and the soldiers because there was a time when military personnel were not treated with the respect they deserved, said Judi Stapleton, assistant coordinator, Operation Welcome You Home, a Naperville-based nonprofit. In a few weeks, the organization will host its first fundraiser, a candlelight bowling event, Stapleton said. During difficult economic times, non-profit organizations can become a lifeline for people in need. But what happens when those non-profits are in need? There aren't many non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting other non-profits. That is the predicament The Power Connection finds itself in. The Power Connection helps more than 2,000 residents each week stay afloat.
