On the heels of their historic championship season, the Lady Raiders were tabbed as the No. 2-rated high school girls basketball team in the country.
Given their not so recent history, the Bolingbrook Lady Raiders aren't used to being in second place. But when tabbed by a national poll as the second-best team in all the nation, they'll surely take it. After completing a historic three-peat earlier this month, ESPN HoopGurlz tabbed the Lady Raiders (29-2) as the No. 2-rated team in the country. The only team better? Well, that would be one of two teams to beat Bolingbrook this season—Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) Bolingbrook secured its third-straight state championship March 5 by defeating Zion-Benton 71-42 in the IHSA Class 4A State Championship in Normal. The Lady Raiders led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a double-digit lead early as they so often did during their postseason run. Later…

Bolingbrook 64, Benet Academy 44. Bolingbrook's Ariel Massengale took it upon herself to carry her teammates to a sectional championship, pouring in a game-high 22 points in a 20-point win against Benet.
The Hot Read: Bolingbrook took Benet Academy's best shot in the first half of Thursday's Romeoville Sectional final, but the Lady Raiders delivered the opening salvo of the third quarter and didn't stop until they earned a 20-point victory and sectional championship. Bolingbrook captured its seventh consecutive sectional title with a 64-44 win. The Lady Raiders were led by McDonald's All-American Ariel Massengale, who bounced back from a sluggish semi-final performance to put up 22 points and four rebounds—the senior point guard put her teammates on her back and carried the bulk of the team's scoring. Junior Morgan Tuck scored 14 of her 15 points in the second half in support of Massengale's show-stopping performance. Benet opened the game…

The Bolingbrook Lady Raiders scratched and clawed their way to a 67-43 win with defense, rebounding and pounding away in the paint.
It wasn't Bolingbrook at its prettiest, but the gritty effort was enough to push the Lady Raiders past Naperville Central and into the Romeoville Sectional final tomorrow night. Take for example Bolingbrook's All-American Ariel Massengale. The senior guard—headed for the University of Tennessee next season—was a bit off her game according to her coach. "That wasn't her best today. But she's definitely a great player and she's going to bring something every day," said Lady Raiders coach Tony Smith. "Today probably wasn't her best, but I'm looking forward to Thursday." Massengale scored 10 points for the Lady Raiders in Monday's 67-43 win against the Redhawks, but left a few more markers on the floor with several missed opportunities…

Bolingbrook 67, Naperville Central 43. The Lady Raiders rode junior Morgan Tuck's strong effort on the block, which featured 26 points and eight rebounds, to a 24-point win and a spot in the Romeoville Sectional finals.
The Hot Read: Behind the efforts of junior forward Morgan Tuck, the Bolingbrook Lady Raiders took one more step toward earning a third-straight state title. Tuck's 26 points and eight rebounds powered Bolingbrook to a 67-43 win in the first semi-final of the Romeoville Sectional. The Lady Raiders gutted out a win in a game that was physical from the opening tip. Tuck's interior dominance helped set up Bolingbrook's perimiter attack as junior guard Allie Hill knocked down four 3-point field goals en route to a 14-point night. Patch’s MVP: Junior Morgan Tuck contributed 26 points and eight rebounds to spur the Lady Raiders past a physical foe in an intense Redhawks defense. Key stats: Bolingbrook scored 18 points off five 3-point field goals…
Redhawks play nationally ranked Bolingbrook in sectional semifinal tonight at 7:30 p.m.
AURORA – Knowing that the reward for winning Friday’s Class 4A East Aurora Regional championship was a date with nationally ranked Bolingbrook on Monday, Naperville Central coach Andy Nussbaum couldn’t help but make a joke. “I told (Neuqua coach Mike Williams) on Wednesday that the loser should have to play Bolingbrook,” Nussbaum quipped. But it is indeed his Redhawks that get a crack at the explosive Lady Raiders after Friday night’s 46-41 win. Scouting Bolingbrook, Nussbaum came away quite impressed. “With the exception of our 2003 and 2004 teams (both state champions), and I’m partial, this is the best high school basketball team I have ever seen,” Nussbaum said. “They can do everything. They shoot really well. They rebound really well…

Bolingbrook 85, Romeoville 33. The Bolingbrook Lady Raiders emerged with district bragging rights and an IHSA Regional title behind Morgan Tuck's 19 points.
The Hot Read: Apparently, only a pulled fire alarm could stop the red-hot Lady Raiders. With 2:34 remaining in the second quarter—after Taylor Tuck made a free throw—a fire alarm went off at Plainfield East High School, causing a 21-minute delay in the game. But the pause was just a minor setback for Bolingbrook, which scorched the nets early and often—a 25-1 run in the first quarter propelled the two-time defending state champs to a 27-6 lead it would never relinquish. Junior Morgan Tuck scored a game-high 19 points to lead Bolingbrook, while sophomore Kiera Currie's 16 points wasn't enough to spur Romeoville to an upset victory. Patch's MVP: Seniors Taylor Tuck and Ariel Massengale combined to score 23 points, grab six steals and pull …
