Taqueria Muniz in Bolingbrook: Not Your Average Tacos

Taqueria Muniz of Bolingbrook brings gourmet south-of-the-border fare without the trumpets.

Taqueria Muniz is not quite your typical taco place. The restaurant at 133 S. Weber Road opened for business in Oct. 2010 just down the plaza from the Goodwill. The guitar that co-owner and chef Luis Muniz used to play to pass the time in the early days when there weren’t too many customers now rests on a shelf beside the straws and Sweet n’ Low. “There’s a difference between me and just a regular cook,” said Muniz, 22, a 2009 graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago that has been in the restaurant business almost half his life.  The Muniz family—mom, dad, four sisters and one brother—also own Taqueria Muniz of Aurora, which has been open for 10 years. Luis and sister Diana, 27, operate the Bolingbrook location. Diana…

@Lucy, just a little over a month. @Melissa, no problem. Indio's Taueria need to be your next feature. I recommend. @Taco Junkie. Yeah it's location was bad, but a hard to find place & good food made the search worth it. I 've good things about Fire It Up. Indio's Taqueria is new, but their food is real good.   more ›

Taqueria Muniz: Not Your Average Tacos

Taqueria Muniz of Bolingbrook brings gourmet south-of-the-border fare without the trumpets.

A quick Google search of the words “Bolingbrook” and “taco” pulls up almost a dozen restaurants in town, and Taqueria Muniz is not among them. At least, not yet. The restaurant at 133 S. Weber Road, just down the plaza from the Goodwill, opened for business last October—the Monday before Halloween, to be exact. But aside from it's newness to town, there's another reason Taqueria Muniz may not be listed in the Google searcht—it’s not quite your typical taco place, that’s why. The guitar that co-owner and chef Luis Muniz used to play to pass the time in the early days when there weren’t too many customers now rests on a shelf beside the straws and Sweet n’ Low. “There’s a difference between me and just a regular cook,” said Muniz, 22, a 2009…

Goodwill Store a Welcome Addition for Neighboring Businesses

For some businesses, the opening of the Goodwill store on Weber Road has increased business.

Goodwill Store and Donation Center on Weber Road has been open for nearly five months and business owners in and around the area are singing its praises.  The discount store is the one of 20 locations for the Milwaukee-based company in Illinois and opened to tons of hype in December.  And while the spike in foot traffic has leveled a bit, many business owners in the County Aire Plaza shopping center are saying their business has improved. Sabrina Glover, the store manager at the next-door children's retailer Carter's, said the extended hours the Goodwill store has keeps traffic coming in later on into the evenings. “The parking lot is a lot fuller now," she said. "I think it's a good thing. When I first came here in October, there were …

Goodwill and Big Lots make the west side of Bolingbrook look like the low-rent district as opposed to the far east side. Claar is too concerned with his precious Promenade project and IKEA to think about the rest of the village. We don't need more thrift stores on the west side.   more ›

Goodwill Pushing for Donations to Close the Year

The new Goodwill store off Weber Road is urging residents to donate slightly used items to benefit those in need.

Folks who were so nice this year that Santa got them virtually everything they wanted—and more—for Christmas have a place to go to give back as the year quickly winds down. The new Goodwill store, which opened its doors in the County Aire Plaza shopping center off Weber Road just more than a week ago, is urging residents to donate their gently used clothing, household items, computers and other electronics to the new store. And, in case you were one of those people who got everyone else what they wanted, all donations are good for an end-of-year tax deduction. "End the holiday season and start the New Year off right by making an investment in your local community," said John Miller, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Southeastern …

Goodwill Store Ready to Open Doors This Weekend

The Goodwill Store and Donation Center will open Dec. 17 with a weekend full of activities planned.

With all the attention being paid to the I-355 corridor these days, it would be easy to overlook business development on the other side of town. But while the bulk of public attention has focused on the much ballyhooed opening of Costco on Bolingbrook's east side, the Goodwill Store and Donation Center, located inside the County Aire Plaza shopping center, is set to open its doors this weekend in fine fashion, a spokesman for the company said. "We've been looking to get into the Bolingbrook area for some time," said Cheryl Lightholder, a communications manager with Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin, Inc. "We know the people are going to support our mission of goodwill and, well, shop." The 19,000-square-foot store will open Dec…
