Notes from the Editor

Heart Haven Outreach Basketball Tournament to be Held Sunday

The tournament costs $1 per person and will be held at Bolingbrook High School.

Heart Haven Outreach will hold its 3 on 3 Character Counts Teen Basketball Tournament Sunday.  The public is welcome to attend. The tournament is $1 per person and will take place in the Bolingbrook High School Fieldhouse, 365 Raider Way. Use Door #27.  Doors open at 12:30 p.m. The games go from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the championship game scheduled for 6 p.m.  MVP and awards ceremony to follow.

Mayor Roger Claar Spends Birthday Volunteering at Bolingbrook McDonald's

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar and his daughter Lindsey worked a two-hour shift at McDonald's Monday to raise money for Heart Haven OutReach.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar spent his birthday Monday taking orders at McDonald's. Claar was behind one register, his daughter, Lindsey, at the other. During the fundraiser, 20 percent of proceeds went to the Bolingbrook non-profit Heart Haven OutReach. Lindsey "Claar" Smith founded the organization about a decade ago.  Heart Haven OutReach officials said the McDonald's at Bolingbrook Drive and Briarcliff Road reached out to the non-profit as a way to give back. Heart Haven, or H2O, wanted both Lindsey and Roger Claar to be present, and the day that worked out was Roger Claar's birthday.  Several Bolingbrook officials attended the fundraiser, including Village Attorney James Boan, Valley View School District 365U Superintendent James …

Mayor Roger Claar will volunteer Monday with Heart Haven OutReach at a Bolingbrook McDonald's from 5 to 7 p.m.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar will spend his birthday "working" at McDonald's for a Heart Haven OutReach fundraiser Monday.  Claar will volunteer from 5 to 7 p.m. to greet and serve Bolingbrook McDonald's patrons. The McDonald's character Grimace, H2O founder Lindsey "Claar" Smith and members of the H2O staff will also be present at the event.  McDonald's will donate partial proceeds to Heart Haven OutReach.  The McDonald's is located at 100 N. DuPage Township Sets the Stage for Summer Long Youth Activity

The Township's Summer Bridge program, which ties into the national Let’s Move campaign, embarked on its sophomore journey Monday.

Over the past three years, the DuPage Township Youth department has flourished under the direction of Youth Director Anthony Morelli. "His drive and enthusiasm for serving children has enabled the youth department to grow beyond expectations," Township Supervisor Bill Mayer said. Throughout Morelli’s tenure the Township has partnered with local entities such as the Bolingbrook Park District, Valley View School District 365U, Bolingbrook High School National Honor Society, Bolingbrook Police Department, Walmart, Rocket Ice Arena, DUCAP, Heart Haven Outreach H2O, AMF Bowling Center and the Bolingbrook Golf Club in order to assist children from under resourced families enjoy a wide range of activities. I would second those comments above about what a great job Anthony is doing at DuPage Township with the youth in our community. I've known Anthony for over 12 years now and I have to say I am glad to know him as a colleague in the recreation field and more importantly as a friend.
