Thanksgiving is here!  Truth be told, times are still tough for a lot of people. Bolingbrook has plenty of big box stores gearing up for Black Friday 2012. But it's time to also give our Bolingbrook small businesses some love.  Small Business Saturday 2012 will take place Nov. 24. The annual event was launched in 2010 by American Express. And this year, organizers have been running promotions for weeks in print, on radio, TV and social media sites, as well as on signs hung in mom-and-pop store windows across the country. According to Janelle Zenner, who owns J Rae Boutique at The Promenade along with her husband, Josh, the atmosphere at a local small business is not the only benefit of shopping there. “Supporting small businesses supports your community and your neighbors,” Janelle Zenner said. “And we live right here …

Thanksgiving Turkey Recipe: Rosemary & Herb Roasted Turkey Breast

A twist on your traditional Thanksgiving turkey.

Perfect for: A smaller Thanksgiving dinner crowd or a group that doesn't care for drumsticks or dark meat.  This turkey breast is moist and fragrant with rosemary, herbs, garlic and a hint of lemon. It will shine as the star on your Thanksgiving table (and will soon be a requested favorite at every special occasion). Rosemary & Herb Roasted Turkey Breast 1   6- to 7-lb. bone-in turkey breast 2   tbsp. olive oil 1   tbsp. softened butter 1   tbsp. lemon juice 2   garlic cloves, minced 2   tsp. dried rosemary leaves 2   tsp. sea salt or kosher salt 1   tsp. finely grated lemon zest 1   tsp. thyme 1/2   tsp. ground black pepper 1   cup chicken broth or stock 1. Holiday Season Kicks Off With Promenade's Symphony in Lights Celebration

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Bolingbrook. The holiday season kicked off in grand style Saturday at the The Promenade's annual Symphony in Lights show. Enthusiastic crowds gathered to soak in the sights and sounds of the season, complete with holiday music, horse-drawn carriage rides, a gingerbread contest, ice sculpture demonstrations and a cast of characters from Frostie the Snowman and The Grinch to the jolly-old elf himself, Santa Claus. The day’s activities culminated after dark, when Bolingbrook Deputy Mayor LeRoy Brown led the crowd in a countdown to the annual tree lighting and Symphony in Lights show, featuring more than 250,000 computer-controlled lights choreographed to holiday music. Promenade's Symphony in Lights Show Set to Open This Weekend

The Symphony in Lights begins at dusk each evening and plays every hour on the hour until 9 p.m. from Nov. 12 through Dec. 31.

The Promenade's popular holiday light show, Symphony in Lights, is slated to begin Nov. 12, Promenade officials announced Monday. The light show takes more than 250,000 computer-controlled lights and choreograph's them to holiday-themed music. The show, according to a Promenade release, involves more than 75 people in six states; 60 miles of electrical wire; half a mile of steel cable; 6,000 ornaments and more than 1,000 hours of computer programming.
