The former congressman will face Rep. Judy Biggert in November for the right to represent the newly-drawn 11th District.
Former Congressman Bill Foster took a decisive step back toward Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, securing the Democratic nomination in the 11th Congressional District. Foster, who served the 14th District from 2008 to 2010, won the nomination in the newly-drawn 11th by a significant margin, besting attorney Juan Thomas and Orland Fire District President Jim Hickey. Unofficial totals show Foster with 11,990 votes across the district, more than twice the number pulled in by Thomas, his closest competitor. Foster joined the DuPage County Democrats at an election night party at Village Links in Glen Ellyn on Tuesday night. Taking the podium around 9 p.m., he declared victory, and set his sights on his November battle against 13th District Rep. …

Three Democrats are vying for the nomination in the 11th Congressional District. Here's how they differ.
If you believe the candidates themselves, Democrats in the 11th Congressional District will have a choice between a centrist, a progressive and a working man on March 20. The three candidates vying for the Democratic nomination in the newly-drawn district have spent the last few months introducing themselves to voters, and talking about the differences between them. The winner of this race will go on to face the Republican nominee – either Rep. Judy Biggert, who currently represents the 13th District, or Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham – in November. On paper, Bill Foster is the front-runner in this contest. He’s the only one in the race with congressional experience. In 2008, he defeated Jim Oberweis in a special and a general election …

There was some friction between the three Democratic candidates in the 11th Congressional District at a forum in Aurora on Thursday night.
For the second time this week, the three Democratic candidates running in the new 11th Congressional District shared a stage Thursday night, this time in Aurora. And this time, some sparks flew. The forum was sponsored by the Aurora Township Democrats, and held at the headquarters of Painters District Council #30 on the northwest side of Aurora. The candidates answered questions from the audience, and spent much of their time outlining the differences between them. Bill Foster, the Naperville scientist who represented the 14th Congressional District from 2008 to 2010, described himself as a “thoughtful moderate” with an eye on “the long-term best interests of the country.” Jim Hickey, the president of the Orland Fire District (the largest …

The three Democrats vying for the 11th Congressional District seat met for their first forum on Monday night, and talked about the economy, jobs, and each other.
For the first time, the three Democrats vying for the new 11th Congressional District seat shared a stage Monday night, and they outlined their positions on job creation, the national debt, and lobbyists in Congress. The forum was sponsored by the Naperville Township Democrats, and held at the Naperville Municipal Center. The candidates—former Congressman Bill Foster, Orland Fire Protection District President Jim Hickey, and attorney and former Aurora Township Clerk Juan Thomas—are in the running to face Republican Rep. Judy Biggert in November. (Biggert is running unopposed in the primary.) And they took the opportunity on Monday night to introduce themselves to the roughly 80 people in attendance, and talk about the differences between …

Democrat Juan Thomas will vie for the nomination in the newly-created 11th District, against former Congressman Bill Foster and Orland Fire Protection District President James Hickey.
Petitions don’t need to be filed until Nov. 2, but the race for the newly-created 11th Congressional District is already starting to heat up. On Monday, former Aurora Township Clerk Juan Thomas announced his run for the office, the third Democrat to do so. Thomas, a born-and-raised Auroran, returned to the city in April after spending 18 months working with a church in New Orleans. Thomas, a lawyer with his own practice, has deep roots in Aurora. His father owned a small business there for 25 years, and Thomas has been an elected official there since 1995, when, at 25, he became the youngest person ever elected to the West Aurora School Board. He ran unsuccessfully for state representative in 1998, worked for Secretary of State Jesse White…
