Park District's Men's Softball Leagues Cultivate Devoted Following
The Bolingbrook Park District's men's softball leagues are nearly done for the year but already looking forward to next spring.
Each year, the Bolingbrook Park District helps make more than 1,000 grown men feel like kids again. The Bolingbrook Park District men's summer and fall softball leagues, when combined, organize more than 180 teams, each with about 10-14 players and scheduled games every day of the week but Saturday. Team registration costs $580—the Park District provides bases, balls and umpires—and according to Dean Carrara, captain of the Last Call team, Bolingbrook's program offers "the best bang for the buck." "For me, it's the camaraderie," he said. "We're married, with kids, but when we're on that softball field, it's like we're kids again."
