Oak View Elementary Students Recognized for MAP Testing Growth

Nearly 50 Oak View Elementary School students were honored Thursday for significant growth on Measures of Academic Progress assessments.

Nearly 50 Oak View Elementary School students were honored Thursday for their “significant growth” in MAP test scores from the first exam last fall to the second winter test. A third school-wide MAP test, used to measure individual student progress in both reading and math, will take place in the spring. With parents of many of the students present for the “Partners In Excellence” assembly, Principal Bob Pinciak and Assistant Principal Eugenia Harvatt congratulated the high achievers and urged them to continue to strive to do well. Pinciak also revealed the school’s new vision and mission statement, telling parents “our commitment as a community is to be lifelong learners and effective citizens.” Two special guests were on hand at the PIE …

Oak View to Honor Student at Next Valley View Meeting

Fifth-grader Andrea Czart is the first student ever to earn more than 1,000 points in the Accelerated Reading Program.

Oak View Elementary School will honor fifth-grade student Andrea Czart for her achievement in the Accelerated Reading Incentive Program at Tuesday's Valley View School District 365U board meeting. An avid reader, school officials said Andrea is the first student ever to earn more than 1,000 points in the Accelerated Reading Program. This was accomplished by reading and taking comprehension tests on 124 books, most of them fictional chapter books. She tested at a 93 percent average on these books.  At Tuesday's board meeting, Andrea will be receiving a Barnes and Noble Nook Simple Touch E-Reader and a Certificate of Reading Achievement. She won this by earning 250 points between March 5 and May 7 in the special Spring Reading Contest …

Oak View Student Wins State Tar Wars Poster Contest

Coley now advances to national competition held in conjunction with the National Tar Wars Conference in Washington D.C.

Taylor Coley, a fourth grader at Oak View Elementary School, is the first prize winner in the 2012 Illinois State Tar Wars poster contest. Coley, who qualified for state competition by earning high marks in the Will County Health Department’s Tar Wars contest, now advances to national competition held in conjunction with the National Tar Wars Conference in Washington D.C. During the Tar Wars Conference, students receive recognition for their tobacco-free efforts, get a chance to voice their opinions about tobacco use to their congressional leaders, participate in tobacco-free workshops and meet other state winners to share their tobacco-free views.

WGN-TV Weatherman Visits Oak View's Second Graders

WGN-TV weatherman Paul Konrad spent some time with Kristy DeGroot’s second-grade students Monday.

"Find something you love and pursue it," he told Kristy DeGroot’s second grade class during his visit to Oak View Elementary School on Monday. “As you move along in your life, I really want to encourage you to be a good student,” Konrad said. “Use the skills given to you to the best of your ability."
