Bats from Plainfield and Naperville have also tested for positive for rabies this year.

Joliet Township Animal Control trapped both bats in the living room of an apartment in the St. Pat's neighborhood of Joliet The apartment is an older structure and although it is not known how the bats gained access, it was probably a structural issue. "It's our understanding that these bats had been seen around there previously," Vic Reato, Will County health media Services manager said. "That suggests that there may be a structural issue." Did a Lockport Street druggist come up with the creamy creation? Or is the story just sugar-coated history?
Today, you can find it in any town in the United States — whether you prefer yours with hot fudge, with or without nuts or topped with a cherry, the ice cream sundae is an American staple. But the sweet treat was a novelty back in the 1890s, when 24-year-old Charles Sonntag introduced the sundae at his pharmacy and soda fountain on Lockport Street. Today, the location is home to Back on the Rack. But was the creamy concoction truly invented in Plainfield? That’s the mystery filmmakers will unravel in an upcoming PBS documentary, which takes a look at the four towns that claim the distinction of being the first place to serve up a sundae. The special, “The Mysterious Origin of the Ice Cream Sundae,” will feature a guest appearance from …

Fireworks for Bolingbrook's Independence Day celebration at the Bolingbrook Golf Club are still scheduled.
The Plainfield Park District has decided to cancel the firework display for its pre-Fourth of July Patriotic Picnic. Hot, dry weather has made the risk of fire caused by errant fireworks too great, according to Plainfield Patch. "I love fireworks myself," Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said. "Just with the dryness and everything, and we've had a lot more wind than normal too, it's not worth the risk." Bolingbrook's fireworks are still a go. The grounds where Bolingbrook launches its fireworks -- Bolingbrook Golf Club -- is pretty wet, said Deputy Chief Trinedad Garza. "They monitor that daily," Garza said. "They also do a pre-fireworks inspection, so there will be no hazards." While Tinley Park is bringing in irrigation …
