Salk Elementary School Presidential Debate Helps Students Stay Informed

The debaters were selected from a pool of students. They then researched their candidate and debated before the school Thursday.

Editor's note: The following is a press release from Valley View School District 365U.  With their school’s mock presidential election just a day away, 10 Jonas Salk Elementary School 5th graders debated the merits of the candidacies of President Obama and Governor Romney in front of their fellow students Thursday afternoon. The debaters, who were selected from a pool of students after making qualifying speeches before debate moderator Jeff Ortmann, spent eight mornings before school researching their assigned candidates and developing public speaking skills. “They learned how to gather ideas and put them together in a way the audience can understand them,” said 5th grade teacher Christina Grigsby, who was the “coach” for the Obama debate …

Presidential Poll: South Carolina Set to Vote; Who's Your Pick for President?

Bolingbrook Patch will begin polling its readers on a weekly basis to gauge their interest in the election, its candidates and what issues are most important to them.

South Carolina polls have been a rollercoaster throughout the campaign, Spring Valley Patch reports, but as the South Carolina primary inches closer, former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney may be able to coast to a victory and further cement his lead status as the Republican presidential nominee. Romney, according to the report, earned 33 percent support among likely Republican primary voters, while Gingrich earned 22 percent. Sen. Rick Santorum and Rep. Ron Paul both dropped to the third tier, with Santorum earning 14 percent support and Paul getting 12 percent. Texas Gov. Rick Perry earned 6 percent support and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who left the race yesterday, earned 4 percent. Three of the five presidential candidates spoke to a packed…

As a history buff I've followed the politics of our country since the 1600's and it seems to me that we've always had this great divide between the two parties (depending on the era the party names have changed). Although I will admit this bitter partisanship has ebbed and flowed throughout the years. It would seem to me that these nearly past four years have been some of the worst I've seen or …   more ›

Romney Wins, Paul Places in New Hampshire; Who Has Your Presidential Vote?

Bolingbrook Patch will begin polling its readers on a weekly basis to gauge their interest in the election, its candidates and what issues are most important to them.

As expected, presidential hopeful Mitt Romney claimed New Hampshire's Republican nomination. But how the rest of the GOP candidates filed in was the real story. Most of the field entered into Tuesday's primary all but conceding the state to Romney. With all the votes counted, Ron Paul finished second followed by Jon Hunstman, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Rick Perry. Sen. Andy Sanborn, R-Henniker said a solid second-place win was just what Paul's campaign needed to propel him forward as he heads to South Carolina for that state's Primary in 10 days. "Then Florida, then Nevada – and remember, Ron Paul was second in Nevada four years ago – and then, he'll bring his message to America. We just have to convince the mainstream media that we …

Everyone knows Obama will win re-election because it's written in the heavens and he will bring peace upon the middle east and all will be right with the universe. In the meantime, people will be rioting in the streets as food and gas prices continue to sky rocket while everyone asks why?   more ›

Claar is Romney's 11th Congressional District Delegate

Delegates will go to the national nominating conventions where they will vote on the nominee for president.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar is one of 108 convention delegates pledged to support presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. Claar, a prominent Republican in the area, will serve as Romney's 11th Congressional District delegate.  Jan. 6 was the last day for the 2012 GOP presidential campaigns to file their delegates with the state Board of Elections. Illinois State University political science professor Bob Bradley said the delegate slates help gauge the strength of a campaign, if not the candidate.   "That's why you pay attention to these filings," Bradley said. "You have to see who is on these delegate lists. They could be the next up-and-comers in the party. You also get a sense of who is important."  The delegates, chosen from each of the …

Absolutely not. The current administration has increased the debt by nearly 50% in 4 years, My point is that the alternatives are not that much better. Romney is an establishment Republican who also believes in high spending and a socialist style agenda. Illinois Republicans are the same because they do not know any better. As I recall Bolingbrook has a 500% debt to GDP Ratio.and its managed by …   more ›

The Iowa GOP caucus, the nation's first glimpse into the 2012 presidential election, is less than a week away. Ron Paul is the only candidate that's speaking the truth. I strongly connect with his views about the size of government, and the role of the U.S. military abroad. However, I am very concerned about the disturbing articles he published in the 80's and 90's. For this reason, I can't vote for him. Although President Obama supports large government, the republicans and conservative democrats in the …   more ›

Presidential Poll: Romney Picks Up Endorsement; Who Has Your Vote?

Bolingbrook Patch will begin polling its readers on a weekly basis to gauge their interest in the election, its candidates and what issues are most important to them.

The 2012 election is still many months away. But some of the most deciding moments are now in the next few weeks. With Iowa's GOP caucus—the earliest one in the nation—set for Jan. 3, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney picked up a key endorsement last week from the Des Moines Register. From the endorsement (via Huffington Post):  Sobriety, wisdom and judgment. Those are qualities Mitt Romney said he looks for in a leader. Those are qualities Romney himself has demonstrated in his career in business, public service and government. Those qualities help the former Massachusetts governor stand out as the most qualified Republican candidate competing in the Iowa caucuses. Bolingbrook Patch is polling its readers to gauge their interest…

Federal government is far too big and intrusive. It has long since passed the Constitutional boundaries set by "we the people." This has resulted in taxes far too high, which means less money - less freedom - for we the people. It means a weaker economy - federal government employment is for the most part not a productive part of our economy - which means fewer jobs and lower pay available for we…   more ›
