No Protest Planned for Bolingbrook Chick-fil-A Opening

Some may still protest Thursday's opening of the new restaurant, following comments by the chain's president against same-sex marriage in July.

No official protests have been announced for Thursday's opening of Chick-fil-A in Bolingbrook.  The Bolingbrook restaurant will open in a new building at 245 N. Weber Rd., in front of the Meijer at the intersection of Weber and Boughton Road Wednesday. More than 100 people camped outside Chick-fil-A for free food for a year. Hear their stories here.  Lea Anne Stoughton, president of the great Joliet area chapter of PFLAG, had said in August she was in the process of talking with other members of her chapter and "gauging the willingness" to organize a Bolingbrook protest. PFLAG stands for Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays.  "The goal is to say, 'Here are some things you may want to know before you eat at Chick-fil-A,'" …

Chick-fil-A Protest Possible for Bolingbrook, Already Planned for Oswego

A protest may be in the works for the opening of a Bolingbrook Chick-fil-A. One is already planned for a Chick-fil-A opening in Oswego.

Protest planned for Oswego location  A local resident is asking the community to join a peaceful protest when Oswego’s Chick-fil-A restaurant opens Thursday, Aug. 23, in light of recent remarks the fast food chain's president made against same sex marriage. Beck Gibson, an Oswego High School graduate, has organized this Facebook page advertising the Oswego protest.  The protest, slated for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Route 34 store will entail, according to the event page, “peacefully standing across the street and letting everyone that eats there and anyone passing by know by eating there you are funding hate.” Protest possible in Bolingbrook  A similar protest could also take place outside of Bolingbrook's new Chick-fil-A. The …

It is a really dumb thing to protest against Chic-Fil-A because the CEO is against gay marriage. That's his right. I also am against gay marriage. I believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect, but we should not change what has served humanity for thousands of years. Marriage has, and always should be, between a man and a woman. The bible teaches this, common sense teaches this.   more ›

Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day Draws Crowds Supporting 'Traditional Marriage'

"Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" brought large crowds of people out in support of the chain's stance on same-sex marriage and "free speech" on Wednesday around the Chicago area.

Judging by the hundreds standing in line Wednesday, a passerby might have thought the Chick-fil-A near Fox Valley Mall in Naperville was giving away food, but the crowd was actually there to support the chain restaurant and its CEO’s vocal opposition to gay marriage. After recent criticism toward Chick-fil-A and its president Dan Cathy, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee dubbed Aug. 1 as “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" on his Facebook page, which brought supporters out in droves to the Aurora location near the Naperville border. By 2 p.m., many customers had been waiting in line outside for two to three hours while bearing temperatures in the high 80s. Cars also packed the parking lot and zigzagged from the drive-thru windows out into …

Union Members Protest Outside of Menard's

IBEW 176 protesting lighting contract.

Members of the International Brothers of Electrical Workers Local 176, based in Joliet, protested the Bolingbrook Menard's contract with non-union, Glen Ellyn based U.S. Lighting, Inc. Wendall Perkins, a Kankakee resident and member of IBEW 176 since 1996, said the organization was protesting because the Menard's store chose a non-union contractor for a lighting project instead of supporting one of the local union contractors who purchase from their store on a regular basis. "It's not fair for them to come in and take our business," Perkins said. "Doesn't help the economy for the little guy." Perkins and fellow IBEW member Pete Frazer said they have done a lot of work in Bolingbrook over the years, including contracts with Walmart, Kohls …

Those on here who deride and scoff at these union protesters are really undermining their own futures. If you think it is so right to get the lowest price electrician, what is not to say that someone believes that your job can be replaced by the lowest paid worker or someone over seas. Be careful of the contempt you show to others because it may someday be directed back at you.   more ›
