Bolingbrook Mayor Claar's Eighth Term 'Possibly' His Last in Office

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar was elected Tuesday night for his eighth term in office.

Mayor Roger Claar may or may not run for Bolingbrook mayor again in 2017.  The mayor told the Bolingbrook Reporter he would not rule out a ninth term, and that his eighth term was "possibly his last in office."  Claar has already been mayor in Bolingbrook for 26 years.  "In the last 26 years this town has changed dramatically," Claar told the Bolingbrook Reporter. "I'm proud to say that Bolingbrook has a multitude of wonderful public amenities. It was a huge team effort to get to where we are today."  Claar was elected to his eighth term Tuesday. He was unopposed, as no one registered to run against him on the ballot or as a write-in candidate, according to the Bolingbrook Reporter. --- Sign up for our daily e-newsletter.  Like Bolingbrook…

Rhonda - Why are always so bitter with the Mayor? Many of us Bolingbrook residents the Mayor has spent a considerable amount of his time building the community and a tremendous amount of his time at charitable events. What have you done for the community? NOTHING, but moan and groan about people you are jealous of. You are a sad, bitter, and negative person. You tried to change places and you …   more ›

Mayor Claar's Ethics Called into Question

The Illinois Better Government Association questions the ability of the Bolingbrook mayor to also serve as liquor commissioner, specifically in an incident with Tailgater's.

Should Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar accept campaign donations from a bar if he also serves as the village's liquor commissioner? That was the question recently posed by Illinois Better Government Association’s Andy Shaw in a column that appears on the watchdog website Reboot Illinois.  Nearly all Illinois mayors act as their town's liquor commissioner.  "It’s perfectly legal but sleazy, a blatant conflict of interest: Taking money from places you regulate," Shaw writes. "Unfortunately, some mayors don’t get it. They wonder why the Better Government Association is concerned." Shaw writes that Claar’s role as the town’s liquor commissioner came into question after the long-time mayor accepted campaign donations from sports bar Tailgater's …

Bolingbrook Files Lawsuit Against Illinois American Water as Part of Northern Will County Water Agency

The village of Bolingbrook, along with four other Will County communities, have filed a lawsuit against Illinois American Water to take control of a water pipeline through eminent domain.

After making two offers to purchase a water pipeline from Illinois American Water, the Northern Will County Water Agency has filed a lawsuit to take control of the Bedford Park pipeline through eminent domain.  The Northern Will County Water Agency includes Bolingbrook, Lemont, Woodridge, Romeoville and Homer Glen. Officials in Lemont, Woodridge and Romeoville have said only small portions of their communities are served by Illinois American Water and would be affected.  The water agency claims the pipeline takeover would prevent Illinois American Water from continually hiking residents' water bills. IAW claims the increases in water rates are the result of increases from other agencies, and the Northern Will County Water Agency is wasting…

Mayor Roger Claar Spends Birthday Volunteering at Bolingbrook McDonald's

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar and his daughter Lindsey worked a two-hour shift at McDonald's Monday to raise money for Heart Haven OutReach.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar spent his birthday Monday taking orders at McDonald's. Claar was behind one register, his daughter, Lindsey, at the other. During the fundraiser, 20 percent of proceeds went to the Bolingbrook non-profit Heart Haven OutReach. Lindsey "Claar" Smith founded the organization about a decade ago.  Heart Haven OutReach officials said the McDonald's at Bolingbrook Drive and Briarcliff Road reached out to the non-profit as a way to give back. Heart Haven, or H2O, wanted both Lindsey and Roger Claar to be present, and the day that worked out was Roger Claar's birthday.  Several Bolingbrook officials attended the fundraiser, including Village Attorney James Boan, Valley View School District 365U Superintendent James …

Good morning Joe, I donate money/food to local shelters and food pantries, but my God given passion, talent and background lies with government finance. Specifically, local government finance. I'm totally fascinated with how local leaders spend our tax dollars, and dislike nepotism, cronyism and reckless spending. I'm certain there are people in the community that have the same passion, talent …   more ›

New Hope Baptist Church Pastor Receives Key to Bolingbrook

New Hope Baptist Church recently celebrated its 25th anniversary in Bolingbrook.

Charles Branch, the 88-year-old pastor emeritus for New Hope Baptist Church in Bolingbrook, recently received a rare honor. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar, as part of New Hope’s 25th anniversary celebration, presented Branch with a key to the village. Attendees said Claar told the crowd he has presented only five keys in his 25 years as mayor. “Chuck Branch is a longtime supporter of Bolingbrook,” Claar told Patch. “I wanted to give (New Hope) something to commemorate what he, in particular, as well as his church, has done for Bolingbrook and the community. I thought, given their long history and interest in our betterment and what they do for our residents, the key would be representative of such a success story.” Branch served as chaplain…

A true hero - one of Charles Branch's most famous negotiations was the hostage stand off at Stateville Prison September 23rd 1979 - thanks to his bravery the leaders of the protest released the prisoners after he gave himself to them in return. Crises was averted and that fateful day. Thanks for the terrific article and for recognizing Rev. Branch and New Hope. It continues to be a beacon on …   more ›
