The village of Bolingbrook, along with four other Will County communities, have filed a lawsuit against Illinois American Water to take control of a water pipeline through eminent domain.
After making two offers to purchase a water pipeline from Illinois American Water, the Northern Will County Water Agency has filed a lawsuit to take control of the Bedford Park pipeline through eminent domain. The Northern Will County Water Agency includes Bolingbrook, Lemont, Woodridge, Romeoville and Homer Glen. Officials in Lemont, Woodridge and Romeoville have said only small portions of their communities are served by Illinois American Water and would be affected. The water agency claims the pipeline takeover would prevent Illinois American Water from continually hiking residents' water bills. IAW claims the increases in water rates are the result of increases from other agencies, and the Northern Will County Water Agency is wasting…

Activity stations let students get in touch with their feelings and "relax or blow off some steam," occupational therapist Stephanie Raynor says.
Anyone entering the Valley View School District 365U Autism Sensory Room at Kenneth L. Hermansen Elementary School in Romeoville is immediately welcomed with a kind smile and the calming smell of lavender. The lights are off and relaxing sounds drift from a CD player. Occupational Therapist Stephanie Raynor is among those making sure each student in the VVSD autism program visits the room at least one time per day. “This benefits the children because it gives them a chance to relax or get revved up for class,” Raynor said. When students enter the room, either Raynor or paraprofessional Rebecca Truitt greets them. The students are asked how they feel. Happy? Sad? Giggly? Angry? Tired? They point out their feelings using signs posted on …

A truck that lost its gas tank at Weber and Normantown resulted in more than 100 gallons of fuel being spilled and an all-day cleanup process, officials said.
A semi-tractor truck that leaked about 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto Weber Road at Normantown forced the closure of two lanes of traffic for more than nine hours Monday, Romeoville Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Mike Flaherty said. The leak was caused by the truck losing one of its fuel tanks while it was in the southbound turn lane waiting to turn east on to Normantown Road, Flaherty said in a news release on the incident. A Romeoville Level 2 Hazmat response team was called to the scene at about 8 a.m. to contain the fuel while a clean-up company removed the substance, he said. The work took all day, finishing after 5 p.m. and causing major traffic congestion in the area, he said. The Romeoville Police and Public Works …

Valley View School District 365U Bus Driver Gloria Gonzalez has worked for the district for almost 28 years.
As a 28-year veteran bus driver for Valley View School District 365U, Gloria Gonzalez knows she has a lot of responsibility. "There's nothing as important as the life of a child," Gonzalez said. "The safety of the students supersede everything that we do. They're number one, always." Never was it so apparent, she said, after a snowstorm when "the streets were like Teflon" and it was "really, really slippery." While scanning all of her mirrors, Gonzalez saw a mother bless the bus. "When I see the parents waiting there -- especially the kindergarten and first-graders -- and I see the look in their eyes, they're trusting us," she said. "They're trusting us to give their kids a safe ride to and from school. That's a huge obligation." …
