Lukancic Middle School Teacher Wendy Sifuentes' sixth-grade students were born in 2001. That's why she decided to organize an event to honor the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, at Lukancic Tuesday. Romeoville police and firefighters shook hands with students as they arrived at school. Students recognized a moment of silence during the daily announcements and heard a short history of the day. Then, students presented the police and firefighters with "Thank You" posters, each created by a different Lukancic Social Studies class. "These students have no emotional connection to (9/11)," Sifuentes said. "For adults, it's still terrifying. Officials of the Illinois American Water and the Northern Will County Water Agency clashed, again, at a meeting of the water agency Monday.
illinois American Water vs. the Northern Will County Water Agency. The two sides clashed, again, at a Northern Will County Water Agency meeting Monday. Homer Glen Mayor Jim Daley asked those with a tie to IAW in the audience to identify themselves. He cut off an IAW rep during the "Questions from the Public" section, saying "this was not a commercial" and "we've heard this all before." Both sides accused the other of misinforming the public. Bolingbrook Mayor Claar said the IAW had been furthering its "lies" and "falsehoods" for years. Prior to the meeting, IAW distributed flyers urging residents in Homer Glen to attend the meeting to "ask for answers." The IAW said the water agency would more likely raise water rates than lower them and…

Bob Kalnicky, candidate for Illinois State Representative in the 98th district, released the following statement in response to Illinois' credit downgrade by S&P: "While the news of Standard & Poor's decision to downgrade Illinois' credit rating is a blow to Illinois taxpayers, the move doesn't come as a big surprise, but rather, an outrage. "Years of ineffective leadership in Springfield have caused businesses and families to flee and have left us with an outstanding debt that it will take our state years to recover from. S&P's downgrade follows Moody's recent credit downgrade, citing weak funding levels for pensions as the primary basis for their decision. "Pension reform is the can that we just keep kicking down the road and now, we're …

Mom of former student: "My son has been through hell."
Valley View School District will get a few more weeks to respond to a lawsuit filed by a former Romeoville and Bolingbrook high school basketball player. Judge Ronald Guzman granted motions by Valley View and co-defendants Jim Boudouris, RHS’ athletic director, and Jeffrey Bambule, Romeoville boys basketball coach, seeking more time to respond to the lawsuit, filed in November by former student Devon Hodges. Hodges’ complaint alleges the teen was subjected to "unfathomable abuse, harassment, and even torture" after transferring from RHS to BHS when his family moved from Romeoville to Bolingbrook. The suit also accuses Bambule and Boudouris of plotting to force the 6-foot-7 forward to return to RHS, along with badmouthing the teen and …

I've seen municipalities do the best with water systems, but its difficult when they do not own the entire distribution system and we are are still stuck buying the lake water at full price. I'm glad they are trying to address this, but we need to be very …   more ›
