Aki Hibachi & Sushi Bar in Bolingbrook Offers Fresh Food, Entertainment at Your Table

Bolingbrook's newest restaurant has opened at 1296 W. Boughton Rd.

Bolingbrook's newest restaurant is Aki Hibachi and Sushi Bar.  The restaurant opened recently on 1296 W. Boughton Rd., near the intersection of Weber Road and Boughton Road.  Unlike many of Bolingbrook's other restaurants, Aki is not a chain. Owner Song Zhang started working in his parent's restaurant in Oswego for 13 years. When his parents decided to retire, Zhang decided to open his own restaurant in Bolingbrook.  The location is great, and "Bolingbrook doesn't have a restaurant like this," he said.  Zhang called on several of his friends to man the restaurant, including chefs he said have worked in restaurants in Manhattan, NY.  "They have many, many years of experience," he said.  The quality of Aki's food sets it apart from other …

Shop Locally in Bolingbrook During Small Business Saturday

Patch found local stores in Bolingbrook offering holiday sales, personalized service and unique merchandise.

Bolingbrook has plenty of big box stores gearing up for Black Friday 2012. But it's time to also give our Bolingbrook small businesses some love.  Small Business Saturday 2012 will take place Nov. 24. The annual event was launched in 2010 by American Express. And this year, organizers have been running promotions for weeks in print, on radio, TV and social media sites, as well as on signs hung in mom-and-pop store windows across the country. According to Janelle Zenner, who owns J Rae Boutique at The Promenade along with her husband, Josh, the atmosphere at a local small business is not the only benefit of shopping there. “Supporting small businesses supports your community and your neighbors,” Janelle Zenner said. “And we live right here …

Taqueria Muniz in Bolingbrook: Not Your Average Tacos

Taqueria Muniz of Bolingbrook brings gourmet south-of-the-border fare without the trumpets.

Taqueria Muniz is not quite your typical taco place. The restaurant at 133 S. Weber Road opened for business in Oct. 2010 just down the plaza from the Goodwill. The guitar that co-owner and chef Luis Muniz used to play to pass the time in the early days when there weren’t too many customers now rests on a shelf beside the straws and Sweet n’ Low. “There’s a difference between me and just a regular cook,” said Muniz, 22, a 2009 graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago that has been in the restaurant business almost half his life.  The Muniz family—mom, dad, four sisters and one brother—also own Taqueria Muniz of Aurora, which has been open for 10 years. Luis and sister Diana, 27, operate the Bolingbrook location. Diana…

Yeah it's location was bad, but a hard to find place & good food made the search worth it. I 've good things about Fire It Up. Indio's Taqueria is new, but their food is real good.   more ›

Christmas Tree Farms Lose Young Trees to 2012 Drought

The drought and heat of 2012 killed younger Christmas trees, but those you'll want to buy around Bolingbrook are ready for purchase.

Young Christmas trees -- those planted this spring or last year -- were most affected by the drought and heat of 2012.  Charles Ide, who runs Ide Christmas Tree Farm in Downers Grove along Plainfield Road, told the Chicago Tribune every one of the several thousand trees he planted this year and last died. It's the worst damage in the 55 years he's run the farm, the Trib reported.  But when you go to purchase your Christmas tree, you won't see a shortage. Christmas trees take about a decade to grow, and the older trees weathered the harsh conditions the best because they have a more extensive root system to reach moisture, according to the Trib.  David Daniken, past president of the Illinois Christmas Tree Farm Association, told the Trib …
