With no snow in sight, Wednesday is expected to be the 320th consecutive day without at least an inch of snowfall in the Chicago area. That breaks the record of 319 days previously set in 1940. Chicago is expected to continue to set new records with no snow in the forecast. Only 1.3 inches have fallen so far this winter, according to the Chicago Tribune. Chicago's lack of snowfall is set to tie a record set in 1940. Three hundred and nineteen days have passed without an inch of snow falling in Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune. With warm temperatures forecast for the rest of the week, Chicago will most likely break that record. Temperatures have also been warmer, according to the Trib. The lowest degree recorded so far this winter is 10 degrees above zero. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather alert for Bolingbrook, and some forecasters say we could be in for six to 12 inches of the white stuff.
Updated: Dec. 18, 2 p.m. The National Weather Service continues to warn of a "rapidly strengthening storm." The NWS still expects the storm to begin with rain Wednesday night. Colder air will turn that rain into all snow by midday Thursday. Current predictions show that six of more inches will fall in eastern Iowa, northwestern and north central Illinois and Wisconsin. As more of the storm is known, snow predictions can rise or fall. The NWS is more certain about winds with gusts as high as 45 to 50 mph Thursday afternoon and evening. As the snow continued to fall overnight in Bolingbrook, the village’s street department called in crews to plow at about 2 a.m. Friday. “At that time we called in 15 drivers to take care of our main and secondary routes,” said Lucas Rickelman, Bolingbrook’s superintendent of streets. Bolingbrook Lt. Michael Rompa said there were no accidents to report from last night or this morning due to the snowy conditions. “Public Works does a nice job cleaning things up,” he said.

Village officials budgeted $996,500 for the season, which includes salt costs, snow removal, vehicle maintenance and employee overtime. It was a year ago this week the Chicago area was blanketed with more than 15 inches of snow.
